PS3 PS2 translated ISOS not working on Bacwards Compatible PS3

First, thank you guys for reading my post!

Yes, that is my problem. Finally I managed to get a PS3 Backwards compatible in great condition after so many years!

My PS2 "normal ISOs" run perfectly fine (both from discs or from the PS2ISO folder), but whenever I try to run a modified ISO, mostly Monster Hunter 1G and Monster Hunter 2 translated to english, they simply won't start after the PS2 logo.

I have a japanese PS3 CECHA console and I have noticed that when I mount those ISOs (using webman) instead of a gray disc icon (PS2 DVD), it shows a blue disc icon for those games.

These modded ISO's have been tested working perfectly on my PS2 Slim by the way, so is not that.

I am using the latest CFW 4.91.2 Evilnat Cobra 8.5 [CEX] [BETA 6] and webMAN_MOD_1.47.46.

Thank you so much guys! My best regards.

That's not proof of anything, so your conclusion is not valid.

I'd bet that the ISO is not properly re-build!

The gray / blue disc icons don't mean anything. When you insert a physical PS2 disc, the optical drive reports whether it's a CD or DVD and that's how XMB knows which icon to display, but an ISO is an ISO - there's no way to know from which physical media it originated (well, maybe if the image size is above 700MB you can exclude CD - but not the other way around). When you mount ISO the CFW arbitrarily decides which icon to display. Heck, Evilnat CFW even lets you configure that.

So it doesn't count the fact that these ISO's work on a PS2 then? You want me to go the long process of showing you a video of me transferring those files to my MX4SIO and then play them using my PS2 Slim? We are adults here, not children, I am not lying about that. Unless you refer to a specific way to build modded ISO's, SPECIFICALLY for the PS3 BC consoles.

Not "specifically for the PS3 BC", but simply "properly"...

There are many old tutorials around on the web, but I've probably gotta find them myself nowadays and I suppose a lot can only be found on Web-archive.

@Haldrie (same name on YT) has a site-Backup of sksapps and I am very sure that all needed tools as well as a tutorial was available there.

I have the latest Monster Hunter translated games patched and working on OPL through SMB, USB and MX4SIO perfectly, also working of course on PCSX2. And yes, these modded games DO NOT work if not patched and built properly on PCSX2 or OPL, so I know these games have been properly patched (because at some point, they weren't working).

But it seems like there is another step if we wanted to play these games using a DVD reader, from what I've read it seems you have to patch the LBA or something like that.

Or (my other theory) it would seem like the PS2 on PS3 has some kind of soft locked system where the ISO has to match the original MD5/hash specific to all original ISOs.

Again, all "original" dump ISO's work flawlessly on my PS3, only the modded ones do not. Thank you for reading and any other commentary will be appreciated.

On CECHA you have the opton to test the game with ps2_emu and ps2_netemu. In webMAN MOD's /setup.ps3 there is a check for that.

The ISO only runs from the internal HDD. Also check the MD5 of ISO using /md5.ps3<path-ISO>, maybe it was not copied properly.

webMAN MOD list the PS2 games with blue disc icon (PS2 CD) because that icon looks more attractive.
When the disc is mounted the icon shown on XMB can be a yellow disc for PS2 DVD or blue for PS2 CD.

Normally the difference is that DVD use sectors of 2048 bytes, while PS2 CD use sectors 2352 bytes (or other sizes).

If the ISO is a DVD but shows a blue icon it could be that Evilnat's CFW Tools is configured to swap the icons or the ISO has issues.

In any case I recommend you that test with a different ISO made from an original disc to confirm that your PS2 games are loading properly.

Thank you Aldo! But yes, all my other non-modded PS2 ISO's work perfectly. By now I am thinking it has to do with Webman or Evilnat laucnhing the (modded) games as PS2 CD's being the reason why these games don't run. Because if I choose the emulated option, the games STILL won't run, and will also show a blue (PS2 CD) icon. Again, these same exact modded ISO's work on my PS2 via OPL.

Try using this guide -
How-to: Create a working PlayStation 2 master CD-R or DVD-R image | Obscure Gamers
It'll show you how to create a PS2 disc the way Sony used to.

Thank you NiQ! I will be checking that out, and post here my results in a few days! My best regards and thanks again!

Ok I checked and I couldn't get those old program to install or work, I've tried everything in Windows 10.

BUT! There is some good news, I took my Monster Hunter 2 Translated ISO and burned it on DVD, and BAM it read perfectly on the PS3 BC! (Obviously as it was always well built and working on the PS2) Showing a golden PS2 DVD icon this time. So my reasoning seems to be right, there is something about the system showing the blue disc icon (PS2 CD), making the translated ISO's not working from the internal HDD. I mean is obvious, they are NOT CD's, so the system is not recognizing properly = game not working.

Not showing the correct icon doesn't equal incompatibilities nor your reasoning being valid.

You could try Console Media Patcher to patch the main-elf btw.! If you set it to CD and your assumption is correct, the disc should play afterwards...

What you need to do, to make it work on ps3 is, on your pc download and install UltraISO, then you need to know if the game media is cd or dvd... Mount game on windows, or extract with 7zip. Open UltraISO -> select file -> new -> ps2 cd or ps2 dvd (that's why you need to know game media type) -> load the cnf file and save. Then you can use ps2classics gui to make it work on ps3hen if you want, or leave it as iso if you're only using it on cfw.

I used this method on HL Blue Shift, US version and some other games i can't remember right now. I think the only one that didn't work was SuperTux ps2 port.

Thank you man, I will try that!

You have been quite an ass with me, since the beginning of me posting. Don't talk to me again, I am talking now to the helpful people in this community, not trolls. If you are not a coward, you will not CENSOR this message. Thanks.

TnA never insulted you, and always gave you his good insight because he knows this stuff more than you do. So, be humble as you were the one who started this thread asking for help.

I haven't been an ass with you at any point, but was actually trying to help you.
Interesting what you interpret into text.

You said you don't want me to answer nor my help... O.k.
Should I correctly build it for you? I can do 2 versions. One with the Console Media Flag patched to/as CD, or a rebuild DVD ISO.

I'd need the original dump and the patches though...
I can't offer more than that and that already requires me to DL copyrighted material for studying reasons (legal in my country)...
