Am I the one and only person on planet Earth who thinks ps2_netemu on PS3 is better for playing PS2 games in emulation compared to PCSX2 on PC?

What drives me bonkers about PCSX2 is because it's nightly builds only, it's always in a buggy state. I don't care about enhancements. I just want the actual game to run end-to-end.

ps2_netemu is an official Sony emulator originally designed for PS2 Classics from the PS Store, modified for use with ISOs and encrypted ISOs in the case of HEN. This is probably why it's better for playing PS2 games, albeit not all as the compatibility is far from perfect even with the various CONFIG fixes that are available.

Yeah.

Most of the 'Unplayable' backlog has now been cleared with added CONFIG files. I have a PAL region PS3 and I've noticed it runs PAL PS2 games really smoothly which I've built using PS2 Classics GUI. If I turn off all of the PS3's internal upscaling / smoothing, performance is fine. I can then let my TV handle the 576p signal whatever way it likes.

It's makes PS2 games really accessible.

I agree. My PS3 is also PAL region and all my ripped PS2 ISOs are therefore PAL, as is my old PS2 that's still around and working which I used to play the discs themselves on.

Setting the PS2 fan setting to 50% in webMAN MOD allows for a more or less consistent temperature playing PS2 games, and yeah I don't have any backups on the PS3's HDD that don't work well. One of these days I'm going to rip my old Scarface: The World is Yours disc as I believe that had a CONFIG fix a while back which I've yet to try out :)

Do you report the issues you encounter to the pcsx2 github?

I am sure you are not the only one. But one of few, probably yes.

Per-game settings are updated almost every day. Fixes and improvements are made on a daily basis too. Technical support is excellent and every proper issue is noted and fixed eventually. In other words, the PC is better for emulating PS2 games than nearly two decades old PS3 console.

Sony made an update to ps2_netemu as late at 2016. The 'Unplayable' list for ps2_netemu is close to be cleared.

What drove me off PCSX2:

- Scarface crashing again and again no matter which PCSX2 build I used.
- ps2_netemu supporting The X-Files: Resist or Serve years before PCSX2 did.

It's the fact I can just use the PAL version of whichever game I'm interested in on my PS3 and it'll either work or it won't. There's no getting two hours into it to then be faced with crash after crash.

Netemu is very good, especially for it being based on gxemu that was from 2007-ish. Performance can be bad on the occasional game, and some may have some additional problems, but most games run great without any issues.

I personally prefer using PS3 just because my laptop is mid-tier and cannot run games on PCSX2 that well compared to PS3. When tacking on ease of accessibility, built in auto-configs w/ WebMAN MOD, easy virtual memory card access, native DS3 support w/ pressure sensitive controls, native multitap support, and literally no time spent tweaking settings, etc., it becomes a great and seamless experience.

Along with that, having all of my games on one console is a huge thing for me, so I also appreciate that I can play my PS1, PS2, and PS3 games all in one place.

Also, making configs is fun.

Long live ps2_netemu!

Yeah, it's the 'set it and forget it' bit I like with ps2_netemu.

PCSX2 does run better on Linux compared to Windows (for whatever reason), however, it's still bug ridden.
