PS3 PS2emu corrupted or broken after SSD upgrade

Running cfw Rebug REX 4.84.2 CEX, Cobra 8.1 on a Phat cechg01 80GB with the latest Webman mod.

I just finished upgrading the retail hard drive to a SAMSUNG 870 EVO SATA III SSD 1TB 2.5" (reinstalled necessary files through FAT32 USB Stick and then rebuilt the database in Recovery) and repasting the unit (no delidding)

Everything runs fine (PS3 & PS1 boot no issue) except for the ps2emu. Mounting and running an ISO with webman will have it switch into PS2 mode and then immediately YLOD (prior to the upgrades it worked fine)

Things I've tried that produce the same results

-switching from Evilnat 4.89.2 (initial cfw) to Rebug
-Upping the fan speeds in Webman
-Reinstalling Webman
-Enabling Rebug mode in Rebug toolbox (Cobra already enabled, enabling Ps2emu option doesn't seem to exist anymore)
-Enabling SEN access and restoring the default spoof
-Reinstalling Evilnat 4.89.2, then the newly released 4.89.3, and then back to Rebug (my current cfw)
-Converting the iso into PS2Classics format w/ a Placeholder
-Rebuilding the database (again)
-Reinstalling the ps2 config file library
-testing a new clean ISO ripped straight from a disc
-Installing the PS2 Launcher Rebug Edition (app will not even start)
-reinstalling the ps2emu files manually through FTP (after enabling dev/blind)
-other loader apps (IRISMAN, MultiMan, ManaGunz)

I then tried reinstalling the emu files first through this user's pkg (threads/managunz-v1-35-for-hen-ps2-emu-fix.24249/) and then through the re-installation provided in Ultimate Tool Box. In both instances the YLOD stopped, but the emulator would hang on the 'No Signal' screen and never reach the PS2 logo.

After that, in Ultimate Toolbox I installed the ps2_netemu.self HDD Browser mod (threads/ps2-netemu-selector-easy-way-to-toggle-ps2-emulator-on-ps3-cfw.16095/).

After booting the ISO and then manually selecting the directory, the game boots successfully...but the Memory Card saves/slots are not recognized. I've tried making new ones with the same save and alternating the slots, putting the saves into the SD card directory but to no avail. Reinstalling the default ps2_netemu.self in Ultimate Toolbox reverts the problem back to YLOD.

In short, I've made progress but I'm not quite there yet. I think it's an issue with Cobra not having the right permissions to boot the game or not being installed correctly. Is there a way to reinstall just that component? Or if not, then what is the fix?

Help is appreciated.

Ok I just put the retail HDD back in and everything works as normal again, so it was definitely a problem with the SSD.

I guess my question now is what 1+TB internal storage should I buy that won't have this issue?

Would anyone know a solution for this? I've still been using the PS3 with its factory Hard Drive, but space is getting low and I'd like to upgrade it without breaking the PS2 functionality

@SocomUnplugged Not working PS2 emulators is one of issues plagued by none compatible SSDs.

Ask someone who reported working SSD if emulators works for them. Just to be sure to not buying such problematic device again. Or stick to HDD/SHDD.

Well in this thread you've listed the 870 EVO in the highest tier of compatibility, so if that one doesn't work I'm not sure which one will. Maybe better to get an SHDD then.
