PS3 PS3 1.50 stuck in FSM

Hi,

I have an issue, I have a PS3 CECHA and I tried to downgrade to FW 1.02 which I achieved using the following process:
1. Downgrade to 3.55 rebug
2. Enable FSM
3. Flash ofw 1.02 using the FSM procedure
4. Boot up to 1.02

Since then I do not achieve to go back on a higher firmware. I noticed that the QA flags were still enabled on 1.02 (pressing L2+R2+L3+arrow down displayed the install package files). One other stange thing is that each time I was booting up the console, the system was in japanese, hdmi settings to 480p and date & time were reset. I must add some information regarding the clock battery which is dead of course after 18 years.

All ofw installation higher than 2.xx (I tried 2.52, 3.25, 3.55) led me to a RSOD and I must format my disk every time.
I finally installed ofw 1.10 which led me to the following error: "8002F0B1". But when rebooting, the system was in 1.10 (system info). I tried to upgrade to 1.50 which also led to "8002F0B1" and the system is in FSM when booting now. My controller connects but buttons are not responding.
I would like to leave the FSM using the `lv2diag.self.exit` but I have the feeling that it is one more error. In fact, it looks like everybody is using it on 3.55 OFW. In my case I am running 1.50 in FSM which can be different.

Of course I have a NAND dump made under 4.93 Evilnat when everything was OK, but this console was never opened and I would like to keep it this way (historical reasons).
Do you have any idea of what I could try to exit FSM and/or upgrade to 4.93 Evilnat such as before?

In advance, thank you for your time and reply.

Note: After some reading, I am pretty sure that the issue is related to the fact that I did not use the lv2diag to leave the FSM after flashing the 1.02 firmware. May I use it now?
I know that flashing a fw in FSM is not at all a good idea and is a death sentence. As I am in a very early version of the firmware, maybe can I try to leave the FSM using lv2_diag.self or maybe flash once again 1.02 or 3.20?

I would try the exit fsm lv2. I haven't messed with that in a long time, but I still have my x3 fsm dongle and I remember using it quite often to install firmware. I don't remember the exact steps, but I thought I did enter fsm and put PS3UPDAT.PUP on root of usb000. Then after it was done I used exit fsm lv2.

I suppose a hardware flasher with your nand backup should also work as a last resort.

Thanks a lot for your quick answer. The issue is that I did flash 2 new firmwares (1.10 & 1.50) from xmb in FSM (because I didn't know that I was in FSM as there was no message). And if I based my through on this exchange: https://www.psx-place.com/threads/red-screen-of-death.18462/, I am pretty sure that it is the start of my nightmare. Even flashing the NAND will not fix it.
I should buy a dongle in order to be sure to be able to enter and leave FSM on any firmware under 3.55.

Even so, if I want to try something, as I had RSOD when trying to update to 2.80/3.55 from FSM xmb (1.02 & 1.10) should I use a 3.55 RSOD fix update? Do I try to directly install a 3.55 CFW Rebug? Do I try to rollback to 1.02 and use stage 2 exit FSM lv2diag? Do I directly try to exit FSM? Will I be able to enter back in FSM after? Will I achieve to leave FSM?

Thanks a lot for your answer! :)

I am back, I finally achieved to save my PS3 CECHA!!
I do think that I have a lot of luck. I will give you the exact procedure that I followed since the beginning of the story for studying purpose.
1. My PS3 CECHA (Japanese) was under 3.20 OFW since 10 years. I never updated it, I am a huge fan of PS3s and wanted it never opened. It was in my stuff and I did not started it since 10 years.
2. I recently updated to 4.93 Evilnat because I wanted to control the FAN as I wanted to use it again and play PS2 games.
3. The (bad) idea to rollback under 1.02 to have it "like new" popped in my mind while talking with another PS3 fan.
4. I started by downgrading to 3.55 using rogero downgrader.
5. I enabled the qa flags and tried to install 1.02 through xmb and recovery modes, but I never achieved to.
6. During my researches, I have found a comment written by Joonie in a psx-place thread. In this comment he was talking about flashing 1.02 through FSM.
7. I followed he's advice by installing rebug 3.55 (not downgrader) and enabled FSM. Then I pushed the lv2diag.self (found on psdevwiki) in order to flash an update by putting it at the root of a usb stick.
8. When I powered on the PS3, black screen, the update was made and the console powered OFF by itself when the update was made.
9. I unplugged the usb key and starts the PS3. Here a beautiful RSOD appears (only a red screen, no writings)
10. I left the hdd from the ps3 and formatted it.
11. When putting it back in, the console starts. But, it was at each startup in Japanese with a terrible resolution and the date & time was reset. Moreover, when going on the network settings and pressing the qa flags buttons, a "install package files" and "debug settings" appeared. These are the signs which must have been make me think that I was in FSM…
12. I was happy to be in 1.02, but my PS3 was a bit useless.
13. I wanted to go back in 3.55 OFW. I tried to install it through the xmb which led to a RSOD when rebooting in recovery for installation.
14. I formatted once again my disk and retried using 3.25 => RSOD => HDD format => 2.52 => RSOD => HDD format
15. I installed 1.10 OFW through the xmb. The installation failed inside recovery with a "8002F0B1" error code at approximately 50%.
16. I restarted my ps3 and a RSOD appeared.
17. Guess what ? Format HDD as usual by creating a mbr partition table and format in NTFS.
18. Restart the PS3, here I was very surprised to notice that my firmware version was now "1.10".
19. Try to install 3.55 => RSOD => As usual a new HDD format
20. Install 1.50 through xmb, same as for 1.10, a "8002F0B1" appear.
21. Reboot => RSOD => format
22. Boot, but this time the "Factory Service Mode" red screen was printed AND my controller was connected but not working.
23. Here start steps after my first message.

24. Lost for lost (a French expression, not sure of the translation :p). I tried to leave FSM using 3.55 lv2diag.self provided on psdevwiki.
25. When my PS3 restarted, a black screen was printed with the following message: "
ハードディスクのフォーマットが必要です。
フォーマットするとハードディスク内のすべてのデータが削除されます。
フォーマットしますか?"
Thanks Google Translate camera feature, I do understand that I have to accept to format my HDD (I do think that it is very clean now…)
26. My controller issue was still present. It was connected (red light on 1st player) but not responding.
27. I had the idea to plug my Bluetooth keyboard dongle on my ps3 port and try to use the keyboard instead and IT WORKS!
28. I format the disk, then the first startup was displayed asking for the region, then the hour and finally that the HDMI source was detected (I was already in HDMI…). I accepted to switch in HDMI and there: black screen. I powered OFF the console & start it again.
29. This time I did refused the HDMI switch which led me to black screen.
30. I plugged the composite entry and switch to it on my tv and the image was back.
31. I was under 1.50 and I left FSM!!! But, my controller was still not working…
32. Install 3.55 OFW through XMB => everything was OK & my controller is back!
33. Install 4.93 Evilnat through XMB => everything was OK
34. I noticed a very strange thing under 4.93 Evilnat (didn't check before), only the ethernet network option was available, as if I was running a cechb console. I reset all PS3 settings and the console Wi-Fi is now available.

So finally I achieved to leave FSM! I am asking myself if I was very lucky to do that on a PS3 which never knew an OFW 3.55+ and if my syscon FSM was never updated? Or maybe does the FSM behavior changed and is locking you on a higher firmware? I truly don't know. I just hope my explanations will help developers / crazy people like me trying to downgrade a cecha ps3 without real reasons.

I can create a folder containing all firmwares & lv2diag.self I used if someone is interested in this topic.

Thanks all !

Note: Of course I would never recommend someone to update in FSM through XMB. I did a mistake, if you can, do not do it !!! If it's too late, my last comment explains what I did.
