PS3 acting strangely when booting MultiMan, IrisMan

I have a PS3 slim, the model where I can't run CFW (CECH-30xxA)
I started with HAN on version 4.84 and then upgraded with HEN using MrMario's tutorial. For a while, everything was working perfectly.

At some point I used his other video on how to update to 4.86, and I've been running into a lot of problems with Multiman not booting (black screen about 75% of the time). I've tried Irisman and it's been fairly inconsistent as well. As a heads-up, I also have webMan installed to install large pkgs from his other tutorials but I hardly use it.

I read somewhere that updating to 4.86 with HFW disables HAN or something, I can't remember, but this was long after I updated. At this point I'm not even sure what I can do because I've also read my console cannot switch to HFW again from 4.86 OFW or downgrade back to 4.84.

Any thoughts? I really don't know what to do. Multiman will only boot successfully after I do the system check after the console has crashed booting it.

Have you tried uninstalling the homebrew apps and redownloading them from scratch? Are you making sure to enable HEN? I forget sometimes and it causes blackscreens or weird behavior for me.

I've tried reinstalling multiman 3-4 times (using a few different versions), I've updated HEN, and reinstalled webman once.
And yes, I've always remembered to enable HEN, if I didn't it would not go beyond the XMB.

can you boot apps like youtube in OFW mode? because in a 3000 if the laser ribbon isnt connected properly it will not boot any apps nor games whatsoever it will always give a black screen

Yes, official apps and games downloaded from the PS store (also my BD disc games that I own) boot without needing HEN enabled. I'm just having a problem getting multiman to start *consistently*. Sometimes it will work, sometimes not. It wasn't always like this, just recently (I think after 4.86 update, not sure though)

if you are using ntfs usb device with multiman, you must use the version fixed for hen by joonie.

I'll look into this. I'm currently using a large 2 TB external drive formatted to FAT32 (not sure what you mean by NTS but I assume you mean drive format?)

sorry i meant NTFS. if you are using FAT32 then that is not the problem.

try leaving the drive unplugged untill multiman has started.

were you already using webman before upgrading to 4.86?

when you say webman...do you mean webman MOD by aldostools? OR original webman 1.47 by deank?

When I upgraded to 4.86, I did not have Webman installed. That came afterwards.
I started with the official webman (still had these issues), later on I removed it and installed Webman mod and nothing changed. The same issues still persisted.

you can temporary turn off webman to help see if it is the problem...

make an empty file on usb memory stick. name the file "boot_plugins.txt"

enable hen while the usb stick is plugged into the usb slot closest to the disc drive. this will stop webman mod from running untill ps3 is turned off or restarted. (remember to remove usb stick and delete the file when done)

You are a saint. With Webman temporarily disabled I was 2 for 2 on successful boots. I uninstalled webman completely and it seems to be working consistently now. I guess webman was interfering with it somehow. I really appreciate the help!

it may have been auto fan control then...but aldostools has fixed this on the latest version on github.
