PS3 PS3 audio output issue

Greetings.

I've recently aquired a new TV for myself, but stumbled on situation - connecting my PS3 gives no audio via HDMI. Video is here, but not audio.
Previously I've been hooking up my PS3 to my capture card (janky solution consisting of HDMI splitter to filter out video signal and libaudio to make use of usb sound card to output audio onto capture card) and playing from my laptop, but early on I also tested my PS3 with a different TV, and audio via HDMI actually worked before.
Some things I've tried:
- cable is fine. I've checked between multiple ones I've had, none gave audio, but all of them were also tested with my PS4 and it outputted audio fine;
- due to testing with PS4, I conclude that audio on TV itself is also fine;
- PS3 still outputs sound via libaudio if it's turned on;
- I've tried to do an HDMI reset via power button hold-press, as well as set all output HDMI audio types in settings, none of it fixed an issue.
I'm honestly not entirely sure what else can I do, aside from maybe looking for trying to reset the console/revert to previous firmware or something, maybe do full HDD formatting? But I'd prefer to not go for anything too drastic.
Currently I'm on HFW 4.91/PS3HEN 3.3.0, console is PS3 Super Slim

You tried using toggle for libaudio patch under HFW Tools->Maintenance or this is a problem with and without patch?
With and without patch. Regardless of patch state - I don't have audio via HDMI.

A small update - I've tried hooking up my PS3 to a different TV, with which I've previously had a working audio. Alas, while video signal was there, there was still no sound. But at very least I can most likely conclude that issue isn't with TV itself, and lands squarely on PS3.
One other thing I can think of trying is buying myself a composite AV MULTI OUT cable and seeing if anything changes when I try to run outputs through it, in case if it's possible hardware issue with HDMI output. But ordering such cable will take around 2-3 weeks for it to arrive, so I'd like to ask what software options I can still check to either confirm them (and possibly fix without ordering any extra cables) or rule out.

this could be a bug with 4.91 in general, albeit, a rare one, because this seemed to happen to me after I downloaded liberty stories from the ps store. sound came back when I restarted the system. I thought it was my sonos beam, but audio was working with pluto tv, working just fine. I'm on official firmware too. no video problems, just that's the only time that's ever happened.

May or not be related but i've noticed the xmb & filemanger sometimes flickers briefly on/off blackscreen like it's changing the video signal resolution, does it quite a bit when swapping dictionaries in the filemanger or scrolling up & down with the dpad.

I've noticed my switch do that, but only the switch. I thought it was the micro-sd card, because the one I had in it seemed to be failing. however, it happened with the new 2tb one as well, so maybe it's the dock? it's never happened in handheld mode, and it couldn't be the tv I wouldn't think if it only happens with the switch, and it happened with the previous tv. those switches are just poorly made. I never had issues with a Nintendo console until the switch. I've had both the console and joycons fail for no reason. I may hold off on the switch 2 as a result.

Thanks for your input, Kevstah, Charles, but... it doesn't seem to do anything with an issue that I have at hand. For once, I am pretty sure that just rebooting my PS3 does not fix an issue with audio signal.

Literally the first thing I've tried, in multiple ways - from fiddling with audio input source and modes down to power button reset.

This is what @Luisile said before. Is this what you reset to defaults?

Yes.

Well after no extra advice being given here, I prompted for getting AV MULTI cable to see if that would change anything.
As it happens, it didn't change anything. There is still no audio output after switching to AV MULTI to output both audio and video. So I guess that leaves it to either some sort of firmware issue (which I have no idea how to troubleshoot or resolve) or hardware failure (which would imply dead audio chip on the board and that is just plain unfixable). Any chance that there's any more suggestions to this topic on what else I can try to get audio back on this PS3?

I don't think it's a FW issue, because HFW is just OFW with the vulnerable browser injected.

An extreme test would be to factory reset your console to clean any audio settings, but I don't recommend you to do that.

If your HDMI cable is compatible, then I'm afraid the HDMI controller is faulty.

I don't think it's HDMI cable or controller at this point, considering that there's no audio both when using HDMI and AV MULTI output. So I am guessing the only thing that is left is, in fact, factory reset.

Welp, I suppose this will be the last bump on this thread. After making a backup of my game saves via Apollo, I started my PS3 in Safe Mode and chose "Restore PS3" option, as from all the googling I assumed its the one option for factory reset. The procedure went without issues and the console setup is like it would be on brand new device. Alas, still no sound. So unless I did factory reset wrong, it leaves me with a guesss that audio chip on my PS3 is dead and its fate is to be forever silent (outside of using external audio), which is a big shame.
Thanks for the help troubleshooting it, I suppose. If there's still some ideas on what I can try, I'm free to hear it, but considering the amount of time that already passed, I'd assume that all possible options are already exhausted.
