PS3 PS3 Base Game / Updates / DLC Folder Backup To PC?

Hi all,

Apologies if this is a bit of a noob question. I've just had to reinstall my CFW last few days. I've just been through he tedious process of PKG installs, so I was wondering after installing base game + updates & DLC on my CFW PS3, would I be able to FTP this folder to my PC as my backup, so if I had to reinstall my system, I could just FTP the game folder with all content, rather copy individual PKGs to complete the same process of re-installation, or am I simplifying the process too much?

Totally fine. PKGs are cancer. Better be if you make backup of GameID(s) dir after install packages (remember: order isn't any but specific) but before fist game run. That way, You will safe a lot of unnecessary data backuping and still have full stuff (You can do the same on PC too, You don't need to install packages on PS3 then transferring stuff back).

In case of digital distributed games, remember to export license into RAP form.

I like the way the switch does it, where I can backup the micro-sd card. My external, PS5 HDD died a couple days ago, so I bought an 8tb HDD as a replacement (it was a 5tb HDD). I was running low on space, but the point is I have to redownload all that content, and several of those games are backed up PSN+, PS5 games. Unfortunately, unlike the series x, you can't download PS5 games to an external HDD for backup purposes, so I have to download to the m.2 or internal storage, then copy. A true pita.

Thank you for your swift response! I'll be right on it, wished I had done this on RPCS3 first! Surprised this method isn't talked about as much?

Presumably with PSN base game/updates and DLC in the one folder, am I correct that ripped games have their own folder for updates & DLC, so to copy them side by side when backed up? Also is there a way to add ripped games to the XMB by default without loading using MultiMan?

I generally thought the PS5 would allow you to backup PS5 games to HDD, never knew that. (Although they are not cheap) could you backup PS5 games to an external SSD?

There is one exception from what I said: Gran Turismo 6. In case of that game, install everything, then run game to... install everything, then play all races and modes to... install everything. After that, copy all that mess to backup on PC. This will safe you around ~6-10h of installing crap in future.

It is not good idea to use emulator. You never know if everything working on it properly, and if all data will be intact.

Most games using one folder for everything, some does not. All using one for patches AND cache. You don't need cache, it is copied from disc on every time it is not found.

Yes but never convert disc to digital. And never copy disc to files and folders form instead to disc image form.

PS5 not using HDD and not allow it to use. It is to slow. The same with SSD if they are to slow. You cannot backup any PS5 games on external storage. You cannot backup even saves... It is anti-consumer console which no one should buy for many reasons.

Yeah, you can backup PS5 games to external, but you can't play them from there. I'm going to have to download the games to my m.2 , then copy them. The series x asks you to select where you want a series x game downloaded to (in case you're also backing up games to external, but just like the PS5, series x games can't be played from external).

You have right. Backup on ES is possible, just not playing from it. Sorry for misinformation. My hatred blind me. :D

Been away for a while... I did try backing up to the PC after unpacking PKG, then copying back to the PS3, no game would show up on the XMB, so not really sure what's going on, will just stick with PKGs for now perhaps.

But yes GT6 is notorious for this issue, I don't look forward to this process.

I thought this was the case with the PS5 backing up. Good to clarify.
