PS3 PS3 can't connect to the internet anymore after attempting jailbreak

Hello everyone, I'm not quite sure whether this is a common issue and I'm just missing something, I'm new to PS3 jailbreaking. I recently got this PS3 CECHL-04 for free (not a great model, but it's free). I've been following this guide: https:// consolemods .org/wiki/PS3:PS3Xploit using bgtoolset. Everything went smoothly, but when it came time to install a CFW, due to some ignorance on my part I accidentally installed HFW, from what I understand that means I either need to install HEN or I have to go back to OFW and then go through the bgtoolset flashing again and then install CFW, but for some reason, I can't connect to the internet anymore, not through wifi or ethernet. So am I completely screwed now? Is this behavior expected? I can't seem to find anything about it.

you should be able to use bgtoolset with ofw or hfw. reflash, reboot, install cfw pup.

your internet should not have been affected. try a different internet source.

Thanks for the reply, I'm not at home so I can't check what the error codes were rn, but the ps3 doesn't detect any networks when scanning, and it doesn't detect the Ethernet cable at all, I've tried multiple cables and routers. It basically acts as if the WiFi and Ethernet chips are broken, which seems unlikely

Since you don't even know what firmware you installed, then start from scratch with verified files.

download the latest original firmware from Sony, remove the ps3 hard disk, format the HDD on your computer, and re-insert the drive on the PS3.
Start the PS3, and use the OFW file from sony to install 4.90 OFW. Then try bgtoolset again.

Alright, I formatted the hard-drive, I'm now stuck on the "Connect the controller using a USB cable…" screen, I don't have an official controller yet so I can't get past this, but I know someone who does, so I'll update in the next couple of days if it helped.

Any update? No reason you shouldn't be up and running again unless you got REALLY unlucky and both wifi and LAN coincidentally died at the same time. The odds of that happening are pretty much zero though.

Well, got OFW installed now, no luck with the network features, keep getting error 80010201

That error is typically spewed out when there is a problem with the network board itself, which definitely isn't good news it means you'd have to find a replacement network board and somewhere that is willing (and capable) of desoldering the old board and replacing it. Sony could have made things easy by making components like that socketed, but Sony gonna Sony. I'd suggest moving the PS3 right next to the router and going through the steps to set up a wireless connection again and even getting a LAN cable and seeing if you can get a connection that way now the drive has been completely wiped.

Well, I have some updates: I opened it up just to see if everything was in the right place and there was dust and corrosion all around, I cleaned it up a little and put it back together, it didn't really change anything except the power button seems a little more responsive.
Bluetooth doesn't seem to be working, the official controller I have now only works when connected directly to the console. Even then, I tried using safe mode, and sometimes it doesn't detect the controller at all (the cable and the controller work perfectly on my PC).
And well besides that, business as usual, the PS3 doesn't detect any wireless networks, and it seems to completely ignore any LAN cable I plug into it. Considering the age of this console, and how badly it was probably treated it starting to feel very likely that the network board is dead, even if the timing is a bit odd. The age of the HDD doesn't help either. It'll probably work fine for normal games, the disc drive works perfectly fine, played a Blu-Ray on it, but I'm starting to think I won't be running CFW on it anytime soon.

Some pictures of the innards would help in suggesting how to clean the corrosion up but starting with a fiberglass pen and some 99.9% IPA is generally a good starting point to be able to really scrub and clean up badly corroded contacts. If you're using the HDD that came with the console I'd just bin that and go and get any SATA 3 HDD - that'll give a rather large loading time improvement as Sony dumped in just about the shittiest HDDs they could get back in the day (40-60MB\s read\write, the latter if you're lucky) a good SATA 3 HDD will improve that to about 120MB\s. Don't waste money on an SSD you won't see an improvement worth the investment. I'm not totally convinced yet that your PS4 is beyond hope but it does need treatment with the right tools and methods to give it the best chance.

1. If you accidentally installed HFW, you should be able to install OFW back on top of that as long as your PS3 unit is still in CEX/Retail mode.

2. You could try checking your system's environment in Debug Settings if you are able to access them. If your environment is set to "sp-int" then that is what might be making your connection fail every time and you should set it to "np" in order to fix this.

and if those fail, then wifi board might be fried.

if bifi/luetooth module is completely broken, updating the system (by installng .pup file) will cause a boot-loop. you won't be able to get out of it without a hardware flasher.

i have seen an issue were lan wouldn't work unless the console was restarted after it had ran for a little while (maybe 10 or 15 minutes). i assumed that it must have been some poor connection in the hardware circuit itself. once it was warm, the metal expanded and made a better connection.
