PS3 PS3 CFW Install on 2.10

Recently purchased a fat ps3 e01 model with a faulty bd drive, but it was running FW 2.10. So after consulting the wiki I saw that any FW 3.55 and below you can install CFW the same was as OFW via usb. So I get the latest CFW PEX and install it via usb and it installs successfully, then it restarts, I see the evilnat logo, it then says "updating database". It restarts and now there is no video out and no controllers will connect. I can try to enter recovery mode but after the two beeps nothing is displayed onscreen and no controllers will connect even via usb. Did I just brick this system???

I have also tried both hdmi and component cables, and the fact that no controllers connect makes me think it isn't just the video signal

Update: Unplugging all cables, then waiting for half an hour then plugging in again let me boot again. I enabled Cobra, it restarted and then I got the same issue. Waited another 30 minutes, plugged in, worked again until I installed webMAN MOD where after running the install script it crashed my PS3 so I held the button to power off. Powered back on and now same issue again. In the process of waiting another half hour...

It's usually not recommended to install CFW directly on such a low firmware. Better update to OFW 3.55 then install CFW, but that's a bit late, and it seems you did manage to get it running anyway so that's probably not the issue.

According to your description of the issue the usual suspect is overheating. If it turns on after 30 minutes then that's about the time it takes for the Cell and RSX to cool down a bit, and once you turn it on it takes just a few minutes before they heat up and the console shuts down.
I wouldn't touch it at this point since playing with it too much can permanently damage it and give you the infamous YLOD. Also the CECHE is a precious backwards compatible console, so I would recommend that you clean it from the inside and replace the thermal paste ASAP. That should also solve your issues.

Yeah I think that's the case, I tried setting dynamic fan speed and keeping temps low that way, but when I tried to FTP a file over to it, the system crashed and displayed a lot of weird graphical artifacts. So I'm going to leave it off until I can get the paste replaced.

I really want to keep this thing somewhat working since according to usage logs it has only ever been on for 30 days. Although I fear it will be a ticking time bomb regardless since it has a 90nm RSX

I had same issue with CECHA-01.
Console had also low runtime something around 20 days( probably not been used because of the GPU issue).I open up the console, change thermal paste and the console never display anything after that.
Sadly but your RSX is dying.
It's has nothing to do with the overheating( unless you get a message that system will shout down due to the high temperature).
Changing thermal paste will not resolve your issue.
