PS3 CFW Jailbreak Newbie

Hi guys,

I am really new to all this and came to this super Forum because it was mentioned on some Youtube videos!
I have a PS3 slim 2500A that is on OFW 4.82
I would like to install CFW to enjoy my PS3 to the fullest but I don't know how to start.

I have so many newbie questions like:
Q1.Should I follow a guide on installing CFW on 4.82 and install Rebug 4.81.2 REX 4.82Syscon Thibobo.PUP?

Q2. or should I upgrade to higher firmware (like 4.86 or 4.88) and follow that guide?

Q3. Is it correct to say if you have a certain CFW like 4.82 or 4.86, you will need to install the specific Rebug version that is custom built for your CFW version?

Q4. Are there any advantages to install CFW on a lower firmware like 4.82? Or is it the same experience when you install CFW on a higher firmware like 4.86 or 4.88?

Q5. As I am aware, there are tons of guides here. Where should a newbie start?

Any experts here that can help me?

Hi. A good place to start is this guide. You can jailbreak and then install CFW over OFW 4.82, provided your 2500A slim model has a minimum factory firmware of 3.56 or below. I believe it will, because mine is a 2503A with a minver of 3.50.

Nevertheless, to be certain visit ** www.** ** www.ps3xploit.net > D... (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com)/bgtoolset in your PS3's web browser and select Flash Memory Manager. More details in the aforementioned guide by Coro, or from the developer bguerville himself in this post.

Once you've ascertained whether your PS3 is CFW compatible, then you can decide upon a CFW

Yes, yes and yes!
I bought my PS3 slim from a local console dealer and prior to making payment for it, I was allowed 5 minutes to test it.
So what I did was to insert my pendrive which had minvercheck inside it and navigate to the PS3's system update section to run the minimum version check, before happily paying for it and running home with it!

Nice. Good forward thinking!

Well, once you jailbreak and reboot you can install any CFW you like from 4.82 up to 4.88. If you don't require or want PSN access then you don't necessarily need the latest CFW version as there's not a huge amount of difference between them. I'm still on 4.87 CFW, for example (Ferrox Cobra).
