You can only jailbreak consoles up to slim CECH25xx (look at the model at the back of the console).
Any ps3 model more recent cannot be jailbroken & requires the installation of a Cobra ODE instead. It's not a full jailbreak & you will not get the features available in a CFW but it allows the user to play backup games from an external USB hdd. A Cobra ODE is not cheap but quite easy to install. It's supported up to OFW 4.80 unofficially & allows to connect to PSN.

To be sure that your console can be jailbroken, you should use minVerChk. It's a fake pup file, you can run it & it will display the minimum version installable on the PS3. If the minimum version is > 3.55 your console is not downgradeable & you cannot jailbreak it.

If your model can be jailbroken (any fat model or slim under CECH25xx) & its currently installed firmware is > v3.55, you would need a hardware flasher to downgrade it first, after that you would be able to install a CFW.

Note that the process requires knowledge & skills & a hardware flasher & a clip is more expensive to buy than paying a professional to jailbreak your PS3 (it varies between around 30 & 60 bucks depending on your location & chosen service).

Thank you so much for the reply! just one more question I have the CECH-2001B model slim ver.4.78 and when I used the minVerChk it said I could go down to 2.55 but even at that would I need the e3 flasher tools to jailbreak it correct?

I'm gonna use the E3 Flasher that has the four parts I should be good right? I have no soldering skills to use the others but I heard with the E3 flasher theres a lot of fake ones on the market?

First, if you gonna use E3 flasher one time then think that downgrade service isn't easier/cheaper solution. But is based on region where you live. If you still decided to do it by yourself here is some useful info:

- E3 flasher don't need to be "limited edition"
- Yes there are ton of clones.. But for one time downgrade, or even 5-10 downgrade you will not notice difference. All working in same way, all have similar hardware quality.
- Downgrade using E3 flasher is solderless (no soldering) if you don't mess your ps3 during downgrade process (always make 3 dumps, and compare them, etc. You will get needed info here when you decide to do this)
- But solderless don't mean easy. Specially on your ps3, if you have samsung nor chip (there is chance you have it) then is hard to do this ps3 using clip. Because it will not fit correctly, and ridiculous power need to be used (clamp, etc.) to keep good connection.
- Yes, 4 parts E3 is all you need. Mainboard, coverboard, and clip. Metal shield can be used but not every time is needed.

Sorry if i'm being annoying! so I'm gonna buy the E3 flasher and thermal paste BUT where do I download the files I need to Dump or whatever its called? I keep hearing about Norinspector and ps3 dumpatcher?? is there any links to uptodate files please and thankyou!

Just a kind word of caution.
Downgrading a console is not a casual 5mn business for a noob.... Which is why we advised contacting a professional to do it, not only because it's cheaper overall but also because with a decent pro, everything will be done right for 50 bucks max with a short warranty.

Anyway, you really need to research all this imho... We can answer all your questions of course but if you really are serious about downgrading yourself either for the knowledge or the challenge then you have to acquire that knowledge...
The best way to do that is simply to read up, believe me...
Sure you will also find outdated stuff or even wrong information but that's part of the game... Realising it means you are on the right track... [emoji6]

Just take your time & I suggest you buy the hardware last, after assessing the situation.
Not only because there are different hardware options but also because with different hardware you can do different things.
For example with a full E3 kit you could keep the flasher installed inside the ps3 & use a dual boot system (ofw & cfw) via e-sata.
Or you might prefer buying a teensy with a nor clip...

Also as you have probably already noticed, many inexperienced users have made a mess of their first downgrade (I have even known a person who bricked the 3 consoles he ever tried to flash! [emoji3]) & bricking can easily happen.... Am not saying it will happen to you, am only letting you know...

Your console model is not compatible with jailbreak & CFW installation at this time.
 
Hi everyone! I recently bought ps3 fat and i found a lot info on ps 4.81 ofw to cfw without downgrade, but i dont trust those web pages. So i just want to be sure is it posible to make a jailbreak and set to cfw from 4.81 ofw without downgrade?

u need a flasher to install cfw on that system.
 
no, I mean like a teensy or progskeet. I'm not sure if an e3 flasher (the easiest method) works on a phat. I don't believe it works on NAND consoles which would include most phats. it might work on the last generation phat Nor consoles though, but I'm not sure. using a usb flash drive will not work.
 
Fat consoles
On the label on the rear and base is the model number
CECHA03
CECHG03
The last letter is important
A to G are NAND consoles H and higher are NOR consoles
The 03 at the end is the consoles region. It's not important and will change
( 03 is uk )

E3 flasher is for NOR with a clip
PROGSKEET and TEENSY++2 are for both nor and nand but you need to buy the clips

Every website or video explaining that it's possible to jailbreak a ps3 console on official firmware 4.xx without a hardware flasher (like E3/Teensy...) is a pile of lies.
It's not possible! You must downgrade your console back to 3.55 firmware to be able to jailbreak it, there is no 4.xx jailbreak with a miracle pup installation!
You will need some special hardware (between 50 & 80 bucks overall) to do it. As an alternative you can go to a professional who should charge 40 to 70 bucks to get the cfw of your choice running on your console.
If you want to learn more about what is required to jailbreak your console I suggest you Google "Ultimate Foolproof Downgrading Guide" posted by baileyscream, you can't miss it...
