PS3 PS3 Evilnat 4.91: how do l replace a dead Hard Drive to a new drive?

As the title suggests, l just got a PS3 and updated it to Evilnat 4.91 but 2 hours later my hard drive started to act weird and after a reboot, the hard drive is no longer functioning properly and the PS3 refuses to do anything except tell me that it can't start. Is it possible to swap the drive out for another drive l'll put in later (SSD) and then just format using the NAND or safe mode? Thanks in advance. https://bsky.app/profile/thenavysquid.bsky.social/post/3ldq5a4mdw22f

Yes, it's the same process as it would be on ofw. Btw, the PS3 doesn't like ssd's.
So l'll just format it and it'll be fine and work?
Also yeah the PS3 does like SSD's. Yes, the PS3 was never designed for them and the performance gains while nice are not a huge improvement. I'm mainly getting the SSD for reliability sake. (In fact my unmodded consoles both have 1TB SSD's since l gotten them and they work fine since l put them on.)

just buy a 1tb hdd if you don't want to have problems. a 1tb ssd or larger will cause issues in allliklihood.
I could and 1TB HDDs are fine but l want the reliably of SSDs while having some improvements. I know going over 1TB have issues so l never went higher.

I seen this. the SSD l have though works fine and has for over a year, good to know though in case l wanna get a different branded drive in the future.

western digital WD AV-25, is a good replacement. uses CMR instead of crappy SMR and is 9.5mm in thickness.

What do you recommend to bring back the ability to play ps1/ps2 backup discs? I've tried hdd40,hdd80, hdd320 (from other ps3's) and a ssd960[gb]. Non of them works with backup discs. It only works with the original hdd60. (Evilnat 4.91 beta 12)

SSDs are not compatible with the PS3. Use HDDs instead.
