I have got a phat PS3 and installed CFW overflow edition 4.85, it was able to installed it correctly but soon after the installation was finished the console now starts artifacting and then freezes, nothing works on the controller. sometimes the power button will power it off normally and other times even the power button is not working and shows itself like dead. The interesting thing is that when i start the console freshly after a lot of hours and the console is cold, it continues to stay normal, but when it get hot like to 60 Celsius. which is still not overheating then it quickly starts artifacting. I think it is the bad BGA balls but exactly don't know which chip RSX or CELL. correct me if i am wrong in any way and sure please tell me the correct solution. Also if the culprit is CELL, then will reflowing the border sides solves the problem or i will have to reflow the whole chip ? Any kind of help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

RSX dying.

Reflow is temporary, and quite random fix. And since You want go with reballing, it is better to reballing both chips and making on both delids.

Elgris says, cpu bga is the problem. reflow will fix it. RSX is not dying. In electronics nothing can be dead by half. it will work 100% and will not work if only 1% dead. Anyway thanks for your reply.

Of course by dying I have in mind BGA under it... However when one starting dying, and You already rip apart everything, it is wise to do all voodoo on both chips, but it is Your choice anyway.

Ok people cant understand what others got in their mind, but your reply is appreciated. Elgris says to put pressure on the cpu in order to test artifacting, he has fixed 3 of his consoles which they were artifacting the same like mine, and always the problem was cpu BGA. he applies pressure through hand while the psu is out of the system and motherboard is connected through wires from outside in order to have free space for hand. And personally i think coin trick will also do the job without any further headache.
