hello! I hope everyone is doing great.

so lemme explain my question.
a friend of mine gave me his external HDD after he bought a PS4, he said that it contains alot of game backups for his PS3 (along with some other files)
anyways, I found some games on regular path (HDD/GAMES/"here")
but I've also found another folder named "converted games"
when I open this I see some game titles, but they're not as same as in above (regular folder backups)
they're 2 folders one is BLUS/BLES nd the other is NPUS/NPES (i guess? im not really sure, but m sure that there are 2 folders in every game)

and the way to install these games is the weirdest part, as he told me that if I want to install a converted game, I have to copy those two folders & paste them into (HDD/GAME/"here") then I have to reboot to safe mode and rebuild the system's database. after that, the games show in as if I installed them as a PKG file.

so can anyone explain this to me? what are converted games? and why they only appear after rebuilding database?

thanks y'all in advance.

Converted from "disc type" to "digital type" (by changing NPDRM type). That's why they needs to be placed in "dev_hdd0/game/<GameID>/" (as every other games from PlayStation Store) and since PS3 doesn't read most of the XMB contents in real time, it uses databases, so they must be rebuild to show You those games in menu (normally during unpacking *.pkg, PS3 fill database game entry by informations found in PARAM.SFO of this game). So it is nothing weird, just stupid way to makes Your life harder. :P

And to be honest, read the forum rules. This topic is on the thin line between piracy and legal backups.

we can't help unless he gave you the discs also (it IS considered piracy if you dont have discs but you playing disc rip). if he did give you discs, i recommend ripping a few at a time straight to ps3 hdd so you dont have to plug in usb.
