PS3 PS3 launching burned discs

Hi everyone

I am new here by the way so sorry if it's not the right place. I read on a post here that Evilnat CFW ps3s can launch games that are burned to optical discs.

I am not able to launch games this way though. I tried burning an encrypted iso backup, and the game showed up on the XMB. When I launched it though, my screen flashed green, and then said 'Error code 80010017'.

So, I tried another disc I burned using a decrypted iso, and yet the exact same thing happened. Game appears, even the icon loads, but then won't actually play.

In case it's relevant, I am using DVD+R Single Layer. I read that evilnat can boot ps3 games from dvds though, as long as they are not too big, and the game I am trying right now is only 4.2GB.

Thank you for any help you might be able to give!

This isn't the best forum to ask those kind of questions..

Admittedly this is a bit of a grey-area, but a mod will probably come along before long and cite rule #1 of the Forums, and lock the thread..
But I could be completely wrong too..

This may seem a bit contradictory, considering this is a site that hosts jailbreaking tools & mods, but certain lines have to be drawn in order to keep the "Eye of Sauron" away from here..

Hey Metroid thanks for your message.

I thought it was fine as they are copies of games I already have retail copies of, and people talk about booting backups from the hard disk or usb drives often.

Is there something inherently different about using optical media for playback rather than magnetic or solid state? Please do let me know.

I appreciate your message, and I don't mean to bring up any topics that aren't reccomended. Thank you

As long as you dump the ISO files from your own discs, it's perfectly fine (because you already own the media, just changing the physical source).

The case when someone downloads an image from the Internet, doesn't work and asks for help, that is not allowed.

80010017 means that executable cannot be started. Damaged disc image, damaged disc, encrypted disc image, decrypting disc image attempt by wrong key.

In PS3BD-ROM standard, at the beginning of disc is sectors length. I dunno if it is checking but if it is then You cannot burn PS3BD disc image on DVD.

you can use dvd (even cd AFAIK). i burned 5 or 6 a few years ago and tested them. they read slower than original discs because the blank discs were not high quality.

IMO it is better to use ISO (even if it is on USB). this saves the laser for ripping discs in the future.
