PS3 PS3 Memory Card Adapter troubleshooting

I recently purchased a (third party) PS3 memory card adapter to transfer saves to and from the PS2 as a sort of back up if you will, for the inevitable YLOD. The issue I'm having is that the device doesn't register any memory cards at all… the cards I have are both official PS2. The guy I bought this off of is adamant that he has personally tested it on his own PS3 before shipping and I trust his word. Is the functionality of this device (and the official Sony one) something that was recently patched out?

For the backup solution in case of YLOD/RSOD read the ERK which grant You access to HDD outside PS3 (yet, to do that, You need install CFW at least to read the key; and not all models are compatible with CFW for now). And while console is working, export saves from VMCs to PSV container on USB, and move it to Yours PC.

Backup on real PS2 MC is also not a backup, as those cards and their flash are ancient now and You never know when they get bad block.

None original PS3MCA are mostly read only (read card, not write on the card).

So far I haven't tried to transfer anything to a ps2 MC only trying to get data off of it to the PS3, which is my first aim. But as the MC isn't being read at all I'm stuck at step one.
The biggest hurdle I have at the moment is I don't own a PC to do any of that, the next would be that I'm not really interested in CFW, at least at this point in time. I have quite a few ps2 saves that I would like to transfer to my CECHC03 for playing on that system as I prefer the upscaling on it as opposed to my ps2 through Levelhike av to hdmi adapter. Wanting a simple solution that Sony provides was the route I was hoping to go down. But somehow it's not working. I was curious if it was an official firmware issue as the guy who sold it to said it works on his but it doesn't work on either of the CECHC03 models that I own, both running latest firmware.

You don't have any computer? Seriously?

If You don't want CFW, then it means You will not read HDD in case of PS3 dies, which means You will loose all saves on it (if You don't transfer them to the cloud), trophies (the same) and all patches for games which are already removed from Sony servers (i.e for Motorstorm). But do as You wish, I just mentioned about it because not everyone are know that.

Firmware doesn't matter. If PS3MCA doesn't see Memory Card (I don't remember where it should appears in the XMB), no matter if this read only or not, PSXMC or PS2MC, it must appears as option to import/export, then it means is broken.

Yea I have no need for one currently as my phone does everything I need it to for now. It should appear in the memory card utility in the game section of the XMB, I have seen it working in a few videos (YouTube). I have already gone through a few YLOD's unfortunately so I am used to reinstalling games, patches and downloading save progress from the cloud back on to the HDD. So are saying the MC adapter is probably broken or the part of the PS3 that deals with MC data transferring?

Yeah, or MC itself is broken (if PS2 seen it, of course is fine). One of the side must be.

However, there is one more issue worth to rethinking. How PS2MC without Magic Gate behavior with PS3MCA (official and imitations). It is possible that they aren't supported for some reason (stupid vendor lock).

It must be the PS3MCA itself that's the issue or the possible support problem you mentioned at the end, as I have tried this device in 2 working CECHC03 consoles and had the same results. Plus I have plugged both official MC's back into my PS2 afterwards and they still have all the data on and work fine…
