PS3 PS3 no update file found version 2.16 or later

so i got a PS3 fat and recently the HDD has been upgraded. apparently the console is on firmware 2.16. whenever i get directed into the recovery mode to install the update file it says no applicable update is found.

i have tried with 4.88 OFW/HFW and CFW all useless. whenever i download the official 2.16 update file or anything close to that update like 3.55 firmware it says file is corrupted 8002f2b5.

please note that i have been using the same usb drive to update my consoles so i am certainly sure its working 100%.

So my CECHB was on 1.80 and was kinda a long process. Installed 3.15 then 3.55 and finally CFW from there. Now my CECHA I got on 2.80 I pulled the HDD and did a format on my PC. Inserted the drive and was able to install 4.88.2 CFW directly.

so do you suggest i format my hdd using the pc or should i do the same steps as you did by installing ofw 3.15 then 3.55 and install the cfw 4.88 ?
