Ps3 Performance Slowing down Horribly when using external HDD

So I just bought a new Playstation 3 from a retail store, i wanted to update it to the newest cfw
*it was at cfw 4.45 before
*QA flag toggled off
so i downgraded it using rogero downgrader, proceed to update to rogero 3.55,and then i updated it to cfw rebug lite 4.85.1, after i updated to the rebug, I'm experiencing horrible lag and slow down when using external HDD, when i unplug the External HDD, the ps3 runs very smooth, i'm not sure if it's an HDD damage or the firmware that causes this slowdown, any help would be appreciated.

not sure. is it fat32? if you try playing psn games from an external hdd, it will probably be sluggish. it can take over an hour to install a pkg directly to the external hdd too.

you didnt have to downgrad first. could have just upgraded.Keep qa toggled on because then you can downgrade withouy downgrader (they are risky to use. i see people get stuck on 3.55).

i would check the external hdd with hdd health software. there are many free ones for pc/mac.

Yeah, nowadays there is no need to downgrade to 3.55. The reason why we was downgrading to 3.55 is because inmediatly after that downgrade we was installing 3.55 OFW 2 times consecutivelly (to cleanup the contents of flash and to sync the firmware versions with syscon chip)
But nowadays you can install 4.86 OFW 2 times consecutivelly and the result is pretty much the same... because 4.86 can be hacked with the ps3exploit toolset web service

About the external hdd... you should start by defragmenting it in a PC, for an optimal performance the files needs to be contiguos
When the fragmentation is huge the files are "splitted" in many small chunks, and the reader head of the mechanical hdd needs to "jump" to different points of the surface to find the parts.... this causes a huge delay

Yep its fat 32,but before i updated the cfw, the game runs smoothly, anyway thanks

Update

My ps3 works perfectly fine and got alot much faster after i downgraded to Starbucks 4.70, somehow the QA flag is disabled on rebug 4.85.1 lite, and it forces me to downgrade 3.55 first, now everything is completely fine, thank you everyone for the help.

if the option is unavailable in rebug toolbox, then you probably forgot to update toolbox (i usually forget). if you just installed 3.55 without doing anything else then qa must have been enabled aleady.
