Today i took some time to mess with the MOD

For now the changes in Upcoming V1.2

- Fixed Freezes on Themes
- Alphabetical Order in Game Column with All Language Translation in Side Menu
- New Trophy Icon ( IN XMB i cannot find where it is located, only in game
- New Official PS Store Icon introduced on PS4 OFW 4.70
- New PSN Icon (Old Style With Colored X, O , SQR, TRG) with Inverted Orb , (The previously one add in v1.1 will still remain as alt)
- In Game PSN icon Themed Too alongside with Trophy one
- New Keyboard Black like PS4 (Maybe i change it)
- New TV entry (I dont think i will add it on final version, because it's TV channels, for different countries it will requere a lot of work).
- Sysconf PS3 to PS3 PRO entrys

Now i want some new suggestions

I'm curious how u fixed the theme freezing. I'm thinking either the syscon_plugin.rco or the system_plugin.rco. the latter doesn't take kindly to manipulation, but it usually errors immediately though or freezes.

Just a personal oppinion, dont take is as a critic, do whatever you want... but i would not release it with that bug

I know it sucks because by now doesnt seems to be a wayaround to being able to include the PS4 audio sounds (because are too long or too weighty), so the only solutions seems to be to use the low quality PS4 ones you made (that you said sounds like shit)... or dont modify them at all
Both solution sucks... but having a bug sucks even more

Everybody interested in installing your mod should read your advise... so they should be aware to dont "fall" in that trap when replacing themes
But in the practise what is going to happen is there is going to be lot of people that is going to install it without reading the warning... then later they will report the problem to you (infinitelly), or will go around saying "this is buggy", or promoting your mod like "dont use it because is a piece of shit"... you know people is cruel sometimes

Edit:
Have you tryed to crop the PS4 sounds with some good audio program like goldwave or something like that ?
Usually there is a "fade in" effect with the volume at beginning and a "fade out" at the end... you can try to crop that volume "fade" effects a bit to make the sound shorter... you are not going to recover much time from them... but if you are lucky maybe you can remove half a second or so. Maybe this is enought to make it work

I figured the system_plugin.rco would be the culprit of that freezing issue. it doesn't take to changes very much. for example, if u try to change the shadow effect to the icons in that rco, the system will freeze immediately when going to the xmb. I'm afraid I haven't done much with rco audio, but maybe use audacity to trim the audio? I used to know the exact save settings for the audio of rco files, but I never wrote it down. u might also try converting the audio to vag with rcomage (not rcomage.gui) if that's what ur using, because I've seen it mess things up before.

I didn't know about that app. could the issue be from changing the channels to 1 like @LuanTeles did to get the audio to work? I know another member tried doing that, but it didn't work for them, so maybe it was the rco file - specific ones allowing for that while others don't? this seems to be in between that. converting the audio to one channel may work. LuanTeles, didn't u create a two-channel audio vag, then delete one channel and fixed the xml in the process? maybe that's the problem?

I edited them with audacity and then MFAudio, lowering the vibrate the sounds becames NOISY thats why i reverted it back, i will try it more when i have some free time.

i need to figure out how to compress the audio without lossing quality. I already had to set all audio files to 1 channel instead of 2 because of the system_plugin size limit

The bug about the themes is not a big issue, it changes themes normally it only hangs when changing to Original/Classic, switching custom themes its Ok.

but i hope it will be fixed soon

u might try a theme extractor (p3t) and a compiler to convert wav to vag. when I was experimenting with the battery/controller indicator icon, I kept failing. the icon was too large for the rco. it would come out to 2KBs with rcomage when the icon should've been around 1.5KBs. as a result, I got white blinking squares/rectangles for each of the icons of the impose_plugin.rco. it was as if the icon extended past its place in hex over the other icons or the icons were offshifted from their intended location as outlined by the xml. how I fixed this issue was by placing the icon in a theme creator (overwriting another icon), letting it compile, then extracting the gim (converted) with p3t. it worked! it came out to 1.5KBs. this is also how I found out that u could add or change the names of icons as well, so I had a different color led for each controller. ;)

btw, I think audio has issues with the coldboot as well. if the audio is too long, u get weird audio cues as if the audio was trying to start up again. that's y I don't mess with audio on the ps3 - too many issues with it. I'm assuming only so much memory is allocated to the rco files for optimization reasons....maybe?

Btw, the restriction about "sound file size" is the total amount of bytes used by all sond files
Is not a restriction "by file"... but for all them as a group
It seems to be because there is a reserved area in memory for them, for themes is 256 KB
This is how it works with sounds inside .pt3 themes... and im guessing is going to work in the same way with sounds inside RCO files

Im mentioning this detail because you can try to make smaller the other sounds (inside the same RCO) to make room
Also, if desperate i think you could create a "dummy" sound of lenght 0.1 seconds in complete silence, and use it to replace one of the other sounds (there is one that is a bit pointless iirc)

Edit:
Here they are saying the max is 150KB (messages 6 and 7 of the thread)

this could explain weird after noise with coldboot audio that exceeds a certain size. 783KBs is the normal size apiece of each of the two coldboot sounds. now, this sound issue doesn't happen each time, similar to what's going on with this theme bug. unlike the system_plugin.rco, the coldboot is pretty lenient on manipulation, so some things won't cause a softbrick. th system_plugin.rco, on the other hand - ,manipulation can cause some weird issues if something isn't right. nice post, @sandungas .

@LuanTeles , have u seen this:

Code:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/48b3uka110g4kw3/PS3%7Edev_blind%7Evsh%7Eresource%7Eqgl.zip

the link above is to a vertical wave I made, but I don't believe it's to the rainbow one I did (think screenshot is in my tutorials thread). u could easily make a rainbow wave from that wave using the gradient tool in photoshop. I uploaded the vertical wave here too. it doesn't have much done to it though. I'm curious what could be possible. I've thought of tornado waves that swirl about. :)

we need a hq 8bit style theme, that would be neat.

we already have one, sorta:

ppxqv.jpg

this is what I made for another site. it uses 8-bit font. it's not a theme though. I just changed the text, colors, and font. the above photo is of the 8-bit font as well. it's Press Start 2P. :)

the font should affect most, if not all, things. I can't recall which font this overwrites though, but u have three options.

What if I wan't to go back to my original [current] xmb look? There isn't any way to make a backup of my current one in case I wan't to go back?

To go back, you simply replace all the files you replaced by their previous version. For this reason, when installing a mod like this, you should always back up the original files manually as you replace them.

If you didn't make any backup & you don't have the original files, you can extract them from the CFW PUP, puadgui can do that for you..

Otherwise you could reinstall the CFW...
