Ps3 problems

I got a ps3 a while back. It has cfw, but it has some problems. I deleted some saved game data over ftp and it started having trouble loading games through multiman. It also doesnt show the game I put into the drive in the game section of the menu. A few games still load, so I know it knows the real game is in there or it wouldn't let me load backups right? I got a small handful of games from a salvation army, but when I put them in they dont show up for me to play. Honestly I don't really care about keeping the cfw. If I put a new hdd in the ps3 will it still have cfw installed or would it go back to stock? I would just be happy to play the games I have bought. I'm not quite sure what to do. If putting a new hdd would "fix" it I have 2.5" sata drives around that I could put in there. And if it did put it back to stock, would it be hard if later I decided I wanted cfw again? I feel like I'm asking a bunch of noob questions, but everyone was a noob at some point and how else am I to learn, if not by asking questions? Any input greatly appreciated. The only thing I really get a kick out of with cfw is ps2 support, but that doesnt matter anymore because I have a modded ps2 also and can just play on it. Thanks in advance.

I don't think it'll force you to re-install firmware by just upgrading the HD (going off of memory so I could be wrong), but if it does it's an easy route back to CFW. Use the BGtoolset exploit, turn off your system, reboot, then install CFW. I'd recommend Evilnat 4.88 cfw. In the future if you're deleting actual game data, do so from the XMB under "game data utility". Ps3's can be weird about deleting files. Especially if you're deleting game data via FTP i'd assume.

Are you sure you don't have a BD drive issue? That would fit with some of the issues you described.
You can easily find out, if there is something wrong with the BD, all firmware installations will fail.

Changing the hdd will not remove the CFW, core OS files are Flash memory based, not hdd based.
To remove CFW, you just need to install a OFW PUP update file.
