PS3 PS3 Slim CECH 2003 - CFW not updating

Got my old PS3 out of my storage and attempted to update it.
Version before attempting update : 4.0.0

Tried REBUG_CRC[e34df8da]_FW[v4.84.2_RE]_PS3UPDAT.PUP inside the system update area on XMB.
Got to about 80% on the second part and it exited with an error. (8000 something)
Will now only boot to safe mode and the "Press START and SELECT buttons"

The USB I'm using is formatted to FAT32 and is in MPT. (32GB)
I tried a few PUPs after this, including OFW 3.5.5, the latest 4.84.2 again, and HFW.
All say "no applicable update data was found"
Once or twice it's accepted the PUP but immediately kicks out with something similar to the 8000 error.

I tried to replicate, but I am now getting 8001002b
Which looking off your list, there's a I/O error? Is this the HDD?

Just an FYI : My BD ribbon is a bit dodgy, could it be that?

never seen that error before.

the ribbon cable can be a problem sometimes but it should be a different error code.

try downloading pup from here

Which would you suggest? I've tried multiple but keep getting
"No applicable update data was found"
