PS3 ps3 slim overclock

Hi, I realised it is now simple to overclock using a txt file in 4.92, so I want to try it using a USB. with the relatively safe values of 600/750.

1. Is there a benchmark I should run in which I don't have to play Crysis?
2. What are dangerous temps I should watch out for on my slim console?
3. Is there a way to display the temps always on the screen while playing a game?

My PS3 is a 2103 model.

EDIT:
20 minutes on idle on base clocks gives me:

CPU: 64C / 147F
RSX: 67C / 152F
FAN Speed: 28%
FAN Mode: SYSCON​

Ambient is about 23C. Are these OK? I tried creating the overclock.txt on a USB stick but it did not take effect when I restarted my console. Will try and make that work.

Did you put the file "overclock.txt" on /dev_usb000/overclock.txt? Cobra must be enabled too, that port is the closest port to the BD. Reboot the PS3 with it and check your current values in xai_plugin in Overclock Tools

2. Keep it at least under 75C in games.
3. Use VSH FPS counter plugin,

That is really low, I wonder if you recently cleaned it and repasted, what kind of ambient temps you have, and if its also the newer PS3 model with I think the smaller nanometre chips that cause such low temps.

I am running v4.92 (not sure about the extra .2) at the end, it does not show anywhere. I did it fresh about 2 weeks ago. I did place the USB in both USB slots to no avail. I have attached the overclock.txt file. This file I placed in the root, on a FAT32 USB which I also use to install .pkgs from. In addition, I do not see any "Overclock Tools" menu item. I do see "Custom Firmware Tools" > "Basic Tools" > "Temperature Information" next to that is also "Check GPU/VRAM Clock Speed" and at the bottom of the list it says "Show XAI Version" which displays 1.2. Cobra I think it enabled? It says:

FW type: CEX COBRA
Cobra version: 8.5 (Release)
Cobra FW Version: 4.92
Syscall 8: Enabled
External Cobra: Disabled

Not sure what the "External Cobra" is.

My system reaches 67C on base clocks (500/650 I think) and when I am playing a game (Tokyo Jungle) which is not demanding, I exited and saw the temps as 72C. I am going to assume it will hit 75C on a demanding game, if only I had a way to check while in the game. So the "VSH FPS counter plugin", how do I get and activate this? Hopefully its something minimal. I am a bit afraid but I intend to clean out the PS3 and do the paste again, I had some MX5 lying around from a long time ago, maybe I can use that or I saw a youtube video where a guy used PTM 7950 pads, I might buy those.

So you have the old 4.92, you need to download the latest 4.92.2, it is in my official thread

@Evilnat Thanks. Seems I was on an older version, I updated to 4.92.2 and I see the new menu item for overclocks, overall it seems cleaner. The USB still did not take effect, but I was able to trigger it from the UI and it worked. However, strange thing, the VSH FPS counter plugin kept saying it was the old base clocks on XMB until I had launched a game, and exited out back out.

Was quite a hassle setting up the FPS counter plugin. Tried to install webMAN mod for the FTP access, so that I could add the relevant plugin dir, and transfer the .suprx over, but as soon as that pkg was installed it made my PS3 almost explode. Tried it twice, then decided to delete it, but of course it left a load of unwanted files, which I had to find out what they were and delete one at a time. Then "Awesome" file manager, which did not even let me copy to the root of the HDD (I know I pressed select to change mode), then tried Blackbox FTP server, which when connected from PC did not even let me enter the directories to create files or folders. In the end, it was Movian which had a working FTP server, using which I could transfer the needed files. What a hassle just to get a couple of files onto the disk! Please could the firmware have a built in FTP server? I hate having to install extra apps, of which I only need a tiny portion. There is a file management built into the CFW, but that only good for deleting, there should at least be a copy option from USB to HDD.

After I had the plugin working, it was showing the temps in game and XMB. I noticed that I actually hit 75C in Tokyo Jungle, on base clocks! Then later in the day I took the plunge, opened everything up, cleaned it out and replaced the CMOS battery and put on new thermal paste. Now I get max 68/69C at the same place in game, after overclocking to 600/750. Do you think that is normal / par for the course? XMB seems more fluid. I wonder what @Dagds did to get it so low, maybe its just due to it being a later model.

yeah also getting the same issue with the overclock not taking effect on boot. I am on 4.92.2 and have the overclock.txt in /dev_hdd0/

That's because you didn't follow Evilnat's instructions...

@Evilnat apologies, the overclock is taking place from USB. I was confused because the vsh fps counter plugin was showing the base clocks every time I would start my PS3, then I would notice it change to the correct values when I launched a game, so I decided to check from the overclock menu instead and the overclocks were being applied even though the counter said otherwise.

That happened because your counter plugin is old, update it by updating webman first.

I run my CECHK at syscon fan speeds with a 650-975 OC and everything is fine, I think voltage becomes a bottleneck for OC stability before temps so I dont see much of a point cranking the fan on a slim
