PS3 ps3 stuck on update loop

Hi, I have a ps3 chech 2101a that is stuck on a update loop I know from the owner that it originally had rebug 4.85 but he did the miskate of connecting to psn and updating the console. The BD drive aparently is working because it accept the disk and the blue light does turn on. Is there anyway to fix the update loop? or it was cause for install OFW on top of CFW?

make sure all connectors for drive, bt, and wifi are connected securely and try again. report any erros numbers given.

make sure disc isnt in drive when updating.
 
I did check that all cables are properly connected but it still gives the same error I did saw something regarding CFW blocking a OFW update unless the hdd is reformat but I am not sure about that. It does get stuck at 50%

what is error number?
 
i think rebug cfw will block updates from game disc while in recovery...but it should allow ofw from usb.

try a different usb memory stick first.

you can also try a different hdd (it will format the drive so use one without anything on it that you need to keep).

actually the owner updated directly from psn again what I recomend him of not going online. I was about to format the same drive using windows and reinserting it on the ps3 should that do the trick. thanks for the assistance
 
Since the previous owner acepted the installation of OFW 4.86 then the console refuses to install a CFW (even if you format the hdd, the OFW's doesnt allows to install a CFW)

The good news is the latest 4.86 OFW can be exploited, and your PS3 is compatible with a CFW installation (we are sure about this because you mentioned that same PS3 had a CFW installed before)

What you need to do is to use the bgtoolset web, it allows to apply a patch tothe flash chip where is stored the critical firmware files... after that you can install a CFW from USB

Edit: i forgot the link... read it carefully, and follow the instructions in the web page

thanks for the quick reply but the ps3 doesnt event install OFW it stuck on a update loop because the OFW, cant even complete the installation because it get stuck on 50% what is refusing to install is OFW. that is what is confusing me the error during OFW installation

it could be the hdd starting to fail (based on error code). try a different hdd if you can (anything on it will be DELETED). make sure you are installing ofw 4.86. it has best chance of working and as sandungas says you can get back jailbreak later.

ok thanks for the help got OFW 4.86 install on it now I just follow the on screen instruction on the tools set or there is a guide?

be sure to make a backup before flashing! when done with toolset, restart ps3 and install cfw pup (you will need 4.86 rebug lite). im not sure if there is a guide yet but read the thread sandungas linked above first if u want.

it doesnt patch for be able to instal 4.85 rebug lite? ok I will download rebug 4.86. I am following standard flash writer instruction I always used install OFW twice dump nand check it whit checker is everything green flash dump again check and then install CFW

you will have to restart (when toolset tells you to) then install cfw. since you were on 4.86 (it is newest), you have to 4.86.

after you have rebug installed, install rebug toolbox (it should be under package manager). then open it and goto last column. enable qa flag. (this lets you downgrade and other things). it may already be enabled if the ps3 had cfw before.

dont try to play online untill you read about how to do it safely. turn off auto psn login.
