PS3 PS3 Suddenly Running Hotter Than Normal

So I just got a PS3 right when I got it I cleaned it up and changed the thermal paste then jailbroke it. I have the fan speed configured at 45% manual through webman. On the XMB The RSX would be at 49C-52C and the CPU at 50C-53C. Playing games the RSX would go up to 54C-56C and the CPU 54C-57C. Then about a week later after completely getting everything set up the RSX is at 56C-59C on the XMB same with the CPU and in games it runs at 65C-69C on both the RSX and CPU. Does anyone know what could be causing this? Like a virus or some kind of software? Because it can't be hardware I have fully checked everything and it's all good. Also if your wondering I'm using artic silver thermal compound.

Maybe change in weather and room temperature. Where do you live? Brazil, SE Asia?

Though I dont think that could be causing such a drastic change in temperature plus lately it's been under 32F so I highly doubt it. I think it some kind of software causing it I noticed after I installed a mod menu for bo1 the temperatures starting going up around that time but I did not notice till after I deleted the menu because it was unstable. But I know for sure it messed up the older version of the menu that I am still currently using. If this helps. The installer for the menu which is a homebrew package wrote to my flash could that have anything to do with it? The homebrew application is NytekCFW SPRX.

i experienced the same in the begining, at least 3 times, just after i disassembled the consoles. CPU was always significantly hotter than before. Both of them were slims. The reason could be damage on the motherboard or damage of the solder under the chip as the original paste is very firm and there is a need for dangerous bending of the board while one try to detach cooler from the chip-IHS. It should be done very very slowly and carefully with minimal bending of the board.

I don't think that is the problem. If it is a reball on the CELL and RSX should fix it right.

Depends on the thermal paste you have used, good thermal paste will maintain the heat you where getting or improve. Lower quality thermal paste will increase the temps.

If you suspect that software or plugin is increasing your temps, double check your boot_plugins.txt, I guess in theory it is possible you have some dodgy plugin using CPU cycles. Also you could reinstall your CFW PUP to rule out a glitch causing it, very unlikely it's that though.

It is possible that your paste has settled in and dried out a little since applying it, or it's possible that the heatsink is not seated properly or it has moved a little since you put it back together.

I don't think it's my paste I l've changed it twice now. The heatsink is on properly. I'll check the boot plugins and see if that has anything to do with it. But I think it's something in the flash because that SPRX loader I used wrote to my flash and the temps have been going up since around the time used that. I'll try to format my drive with a PC. But if it is something in my flash a format won't do anything. I would probably have to wipe the flash and restore my dump then re-jailbreak.

No, just reinstall your CFW to clear anything from flash, once you have a console jailbroken you never need to do it again for anything.

Anyway custom cobra plugins need an entry in boot_plugins.txt, so renaming that will stop any of them from loading. You can also dump the txt file and take a look at it, see if there are any plugins being loaded that you do not want loaded.
