I'm trying to find a MAME for PS3 to run Golden Axe Revenge of Death Adder.. Well it works with this version of MAME but very poorly, there is a way to make it run better?

Hi folks, I am not having much luck with this emulator on my SSlim PS3. Rebug 4.84 CFW
I have followed several guides, but seem to get nowhere.
I have a set of roms that should be 99% compatible but depending on what version of MAME on PS3 I try, I get nothing or a 80010017 error (PSMAME 142)
MAME 129 loads but won't display roms
PSMAME 142 - 80010017 error on load of emulator. I take it this is a signed issue? Tried doing research on this but 99% BS out there...

I need to know EXACTLY where to put the roms on the PS3's Internal HDD so that I can play some oldies on me ps3.
I know this post thread Is quite ancient, but I'm new to the world of PS3 CFW's. I am a PS2/PSP nut normally...
Anyone help an old fart install n play? Or even a better alternative on PS3?

Sorry for being dumb... It's quite nice being a noobie for once...

Hello everyone, my name is Giovanni.
First of all, forgive my bad English.
I installed Mame 0.142 on Ps3, and I congratulate you, but I can't activate the cheats, I put the cheat.zip file (with cheat.txt) of Pugsy's for 0.142 in the mame_data/cheat folder, but I can't activate them.
If possible, can they be sort by game age as was the case with Mame 0.126 on Ps3?
Thank you very much.

THIS POST CONTAINS THE SOLUTION TO THE ROM DIRECTORY PROBLEM!

After start icon in XMB i'v got the message " coluld not list rom directory" and exit to xmb...
- What i need to do??

I have the same problem. I use 4.84 Rebug. I am using this resigned version:

I added the folder MAME/ROMs to the root of the internal HDD (dev_hdd0) as recommended and ROMS/mame_data as read here. I put Turtles In Time (zip-File) into it for test purpose. So I have three paths:

dev_hdd0/game/MAME90000/USRDIR (installation path)
dev_hdd0/MAME/ROMs (recommended path for the ROMs)
dev_hdd0/ROMS/mame_data (as read here)

What did I miss? I still get the error message "Could not list ROM directory". Is there an ini-file missing or something? I also don't want to use RetroArch. I really like the standalone versions as seen in the XMB. Need you help :)

Thank you very much and have a nice day!

Best regards,
TuF

EDIT: PROBLEM SOLVED!
I managed to make it work! I found a Spanish forum (thank Google Chrome and its translation options :D) containing this comment:

previamente tienes que crear en la raiz del disco duro(dev_hdd0),las siguientes carpetas:

dev_hdd0/ROMS/mame/(mete aquí las roms/bios)
_____________/mame_data/snaps/(y aquí meter los snaps/screenshots)

It says that you first have to create the following paths:
dev_hdd0/ROMS/mame (standard ROM directory)
dev_hdd0/ROMS/mame_data/snaps (directory for snapshots)

After booting the emulator afterwards it told me "No supported games found. Please select the path to your ROMs". Now just press CIRCLE and choose the right ROM directory manually. I hope this might help one or another.

Best regards,
TuF

EDIT:

Funniest thing about my comment is that the original post says it right away :D
Sometimes I ask myself if I'm kind of retarded :D

[...]
  • Install the psmame package onto your jailbroken PS3 using normal means.
  • By default all data paths for mame are located under /dev_hdd0/ROMS/mame_data.
  • ROMS themselves can be placed anywhere and their location chosen with the frontend. The recommended path is /dev_hdd0/ROMS/mame.
[...]

Anyway. I'm glad it works now :)

Why CIRCLE? It's says "Press R3 for options"....

And Umk3 does not run at this version, although runs at 0.78 version ( in retroarch)

Anyone knows how to remap the buttons ? by default this MAME uses X for hit and Square for jump (on a lot a games)

And I'd like to swap them with X = jump and [ ] = hit/punch - couldn't find what to change in the controller config.

thanks guys ;)

Hey, I made a quick video explaining it to you:

I also made the button layout as a sheet for navigation purpose (MAME 0.125 had a way better interface but it didn't support 4 players unfortunately)

I hope I could help a little bit.

Have fun! :)

Did you run wwfwrestlemania rom ?
I didn't try. This is all about trial and error. Unfortunately only Metal Slug 1 out of all Metal Slug games seem to work here (example given). Can you link me the compatibility list you mentioned before?

Best regards,
TuF
