PS4 PS4 Official Media Player Released

Big news for PS4 Owners as Sony has released the official PlayStation 4 Media Player as they announced during the E3 pre-show and on the PS blog. The media player does look more appealing and contains more features then it's PS3 counterpart., but perhaps not as strong as Movian (Showtime) Homebrew Media Player for the PS3.. [break]ss[/break] What are your thoughts on the Media Player, let us know in the comments below of your experiences with this new media player...

If you were watching our E3 press conference pre-show, you probably heard the good news – Media Player for the PS4 will be available to download from PlayStation Store this evening. A Media Player icon will appear in the PS4 content area, simply select the icon and you will be taken to the PS Store where you can begin the download.

The Media Player works with both your home server and when plugging a USB stick with media into one of the available ports on the PS4. Your home server will appear as a media option in the player automatically and finding your media is simple and quick. You may also simply enjoy music as background music on your PS4!

Of course, we know what you really want to see: look below to see supported video and audio file formats and codec details.

Still only FAT32? Bangs head getting this usb format not supported. Boo. Will stick with Movian/showtime

mkv playback - great ! what do we need more ? we remember the ps3 never would play mkv without a cfw. I hope more great features will be possible.

I need 3 blu-rays for one season two and a half men now I will buy a new hard drive so I can save the seasons in mkv.

Great news but I don't see DTS audio supported which is a big deal to me. It's a step in the right direction tho.

No I don't think.

The console can read the music on NTFS support, I think it will be the same for the Media Player

Otherwise hope to see that :D

from wololo: The PS4 Media Player only accepts FAT formatted usb drives.

anyway it's a very good feature for the console.

about frakkin' time! the only reason i haven't bought a ps4 is because i couldn't plug my fat hdd in it and watch/listen to all my stuff.

Sh*t, don't understand why we can use a USB support on NTFS for listening a song and not for look a movie with this player, not logic

possible because "NTFS (New Technology File System) is a proprietary file system developed by Microsoft." as in the competition :)

if thats the case, sony should create its own file system for external drives. with a tool to load the media onto the drive as well.

Yes I thought of that too ^^, but why we can use an USB on NTFS for listen music and not for this player? I don't understand ^^'

Except for one HUGE thing it needs especially for HD MKV's and that's NTFS support!! Or at least EXT2/3/4 for files over 4gb. Fat is so 1990's LOL

exFAT works too:
Online manual PS4 (Media Player)

It works for me when I put the videos inside a folder. And you can copy and play videos bigger than 4GB. It is not a very good player but at least you can play videos... I hope Sony will improve it.

exFAT is a proprietary file system by Microsoft too so I don't understand.

Sorry for my poor English.

I wonder if the PS4 can new play BD-J (Blu-ray Java) once again?
(NES/GB/GBA/SNES Emulators :D) I know that Sony Patch but is it Back???
