Custom Home Menu Text and Icons

This PS4 Alpha Mod is just for fun and to show you what is possible atm. The custom Icons doesn't start and has no function. It's my second Version of a 1.76 Mod and to show you the end user progress in the scene on the PS4.

Even that drastically improved gui from Beta 4? :p

Whole idea behind this menu project is horrible and still I can't believe Sony did such junk.

XMB isn't most intuitive GUI on the world but it was at least handy and coherence (until some idiot from marketing forcing to move trophy icon and adding ads). And seriously, much worse is only ModernUI in Windows 8/8.1 on desktop and... Vita GUI. I really hate them with all my heart. ;p

what the ps4 needs is folders which I think is coming with 4.00. I can't believe that had to be something that people had to vote on just to get. the 3ds has folders; the vita has folders. when u have a gui as clunky as the ps4's, it needs them.

Imo the XMB has always been crap...
It just keeps going unfortunately.

Why spend time, energy & money to develop something cool & functional when you can release cheap shit & sell it very well anyway...?
Sounds like a credo to me...

From all consoles GUI, XMB was the best IMO. What was better? All Nintendo's GUI was childish crap. MSDash, maybe ok. Blades - horrible, NXE much worse and with ads (but looks cool). XBO's Windows, well it's not so bad. And PS4 GUI? One of the crapiest on the world, looks like cheap java ui from Chinese tv decoders and dvd players.

Being the best of a bad bunch does not make it better.. Am sorry but the XMB on PS3 came out on what 2006? There's no excuse.

As for Nintendo, they don't exactly target the same audience I think... The needs are slightly different, even though fundamentally you are right, their GUI has been pretty pathetic too...

And let's remember that Sony is arguably the most expensive console as well, so the least they can do is have the best GUI... [emoji5]️

Considering the ps4 is running a custom FreeBSD (+ bits of NetBSD I believe), we all know that creating a great XMB isn't problematic technically.. They are just not willing...

XMB first appear on PS2 (DESR line) and TV Bravia series. PSP and PS3 was next.
:)
I know I had both of those! [emoji6]

Maybe one day we will be able to replace whole VSH like in PSP in good times. It would be funny if someone write something better in garage in few weeks than mega corporation with bilions budget in few years. :D Xbox was on x86 and have the best homebrew scene even to this day, maybe the same will happen on PS4/XBO.

I was wondering about the ps4 & henkaku exploit.
Obviously the same webkit exploit has been ported to the ps4 & works fine on 3.55.
So now all we need is a kernel exploit that was not yet patched in 3.55.

I was wondering about the keyboard driver exploit that CTurt found in FreeBSD 10 last April.
https://cturt.github.io/SETFKEY.html

Unless this bit of FreeBSD isn't included in the PS4 OS? Because iirc keyboards are supported natively on ps4 aren't they?

apparently, they're holding off on henkaku for the ps4 so that it's not patched on 4.00. they'll release it afterwards.

Well it will likely be too late by then to use the henkaku webkit exploit... It will be patched in 4.00.
Also there are not dozens of kernel exploit available so unless they found a new one, you can expect the known kernel vulnerabilities (including SETFKEY if the ps4 includes it) to be also patched by then.

Waiting til 4.00 or whatever would mean having both a webkit & a kernel exploit available that S#ny doesn't yet know about....
Possible of course, CTurt did that much a few months ago on 1.76... I have no doubts he could easily do it again with 3.60 if he really wanted to...

Still I wonder why we have not heard anything at all about SETFKEY since April. Funny as well that FreeBSD didn't even bother to patch it back then... I dunno if they have done it since...
