PS2 PSBBN Definitive Project 4.2

I've been working on this for quite a while and it's finally ready!

PSBBN Definitive English Patch 2.0 features:
  • Large HDD support. No longer limited to 128 GB, now with support for drives up to 128 PB
  • Supports 700 games, all launchable from the Game Channel
  • Set a custom size for your music partition. Original limit of 5 GB allowed the storage of around 7 albums. Now the partition can be up to 97 GB for around 150 albums
  • exFAT partition for easy install of PS2 games
  • New PSBBN installer script makes setting everything up easy
  • New Game Installer script completely automates the process including the download of artwork
  • and much more...

So I tried this using a third party adapter (yeah I know, not compatible, no network interface) and I was wondering if there is any way we could get some logs to see where it get's stuck (I'm guessing it gets stuck when it tries to load the network modules) and try to disable the loading of the network modules for example and see if it would boot that way.

Right now it just gets stuck on a black screen with the white "PlayStation 2" text (similar to when a game is booted).

I know third party adapters are crap and it's better to avoid them, but I think it would be dope to be able to use PSBBN on them too (even if network functions are disabled, which I know is the big feature with the revived channels lol).

The thing is it doesn't get very far into the boot process and the problem occurs before we even hit Linux. `osdboot.elf` is a PS2 executable and it is run first, it's basically a boot loader for the Linux kernel. The only solutions would be to decompile and modify `osdboot.elf` or if you're lucky and can pinpoint the exact location of the problem, modify it with a hex editor. Neither would be simple and both are far beyond my expertise. Now that PSBBN is getting more attention, maybe somebody will take up the challenge.

Oh ok, I assumed it was getting stuck when loading the network modules for the Linux kernel. Modifying the ELF would be way more difficult, I agree. I thought it was a Linux issue as afaik we can load HDD OSD for FHDB using a third party adapter.

I hope this gets more attention and someone can do something about it, as I certainly am not knowledgeable enough for hex editing the elf nor decompiling it.

Thanks por the quick and detailed response!

Also it's probably less of the lack of networking and more of a security check making sure the adapter is genuine. It does additional checks to make sure the kernel isn't modified too. Sony really locked things down.

Interesting, but it makes sense for them to block all the entry points they can think of.
Maybe something similar to PSBBL can be used or made to load the kernel skipping all the checks or something. I don't really know, just brainstorming. I may give it more thought when I have the time as I really like the idea of loading PSBBN with he third party adapters (as in my country they are non existent and importing them is expensive lol)

Installed it on a 250gb ide hdd. Instaled 63 games. PSBBN loads and works fine, but ir won't load nothing, nor any game or opl.

If OPL freezes at startup and games fail to launch from the PSBBN Game Channel, delete any existing OPL configuration files from your PS2 Memory Cards or connected USB devices.

To display the games list in OPL, adjust the following settings:
HDD (APA) Start Mode: Off
BDM Start Mode: Auto
BDM Devices > HDD (GPT/MBR): On

Make sure a PS2 memory card is inserted, then select Save Changes from the main menu.

If, after trying the above steps, games still do not appear in the OPL games list and fail to launch from the PSBBN Game Channel, your drive may not be currently compatible with the exFAT version of OPL.

Possible solutions:
  1. Wait for the OPL bug fix. You can learn more and report your issue here.
  2. Connect the PS2 HDD/SSD directly to your PC using an internal SATA connection or a different USB adapter, then rerun the PSBBN installer
  3. Try using a different HDD/SSD and rerun the PSBBN installer

Got it! And another question, how to enter the ps2 main menu? where are the settings and memory card manager.

Yeah, but not all settings. That is why I ask about a way to enter the main system menu.
Run uLE and go to Misc and run OSDSYS or PS2 Browser (both starts "rom0:OSDSYS" but one of them is for ignoring osd update).

Or turn on console without NA+HDD connected. :P Settings are saving in NVM, yet possible that some will be overridden by PSBBN.

That doesn't work, it just boots back into PSBBN. You can either install HDDOSD and run the elf or as you said, disconnect the HDD.

For any settings not in PSBBN, you'd be better off setting them in OPL instead.

PSBBN Definitive English Patch 2.0 Update
  • The Game Installer script has been updated to create and delete OPL Launcher partitions as needed. Say goodbye to those annoying "Coming soon..." placeholders.
  • Added Game ID support for the Pixel FX Retro GEM, MemCard Pro 2, and SD2PSX. Works for both PS1 and PS2 games.
  • PS2 games now launch up to 5 seconds faster.
  • Resolved conflicts with mass storage devices (USB, i.LINK, MX4SIO). Games now launch without issues if these devices are connected.
  • Added a Launch Disc application, allowing MechPwn users to boot imports and master discs. Imported PS1 games now run in the correct video mode.
  • Physical games now also support the Retro GEM Game ID.
  • Artwork is now downloaded from the PSBBN art database.
  • Scripts now support Debian and Arch Linux distros and work on live Linux environments.

I have a disk with the psbbn 0.32+Soft.rar installed and it has Internet and utilities as well but in this one are missing. Are they removed or something went wrong with my installation ?
