PS3 PSNpatch v04.70.07 - Huge Improvements to Stealth Extensions & more from KW

New in the PlayStation 3 Homebrew Scene is a new update to the very popular PSNpatch by developer KW. In this update labeled as v04.70.07 the Stealth Extension feature for Cobra CFW has seen a complete overhaul with lots of improvements as outlined in the release notes, This update also provides improved speed and compatibility for the Non-Cobra plugin, KW has added his modified version of webMAN MOD Lite (v1.41.35-KW). While PSNpatch grows, the package (pkg) size has been decreased[break].[/break] to an impressive 1-MB. Also the developer would like to remind user's that PSX-Place.com is the OFFICIAL support forum for PSNpatch. You can read the full and updated documentation about PSNpatch here: Official Support forum.

I have this with me for some days, but didn't had the time to prepare the release notes. They should have been a little bit more polished, but as nobody read them anyway, here it is:

PSNPatch 4.70.07
[11-APR-2015]
 • New "STEALTH3" extensions for cobra (*);
 • non-cobra plugin installer improved for speed and compatibility;
 • XMB menus handling for WEBMAN removed (webman-mod automatically updates the XMB GAMES menus).
 • Includes Webman-mod 1.41.35-KW lite edition, english language.
 • psnpatch.pkg file is now LESS THAN 1MB !!!! :)
 • Official support forum: psx-place.com (http://www.psx-place.com/forum/psnpatch/psnpatch-information-releases-125.html)

(*)
A) For non-tech users:
 • INSTALL-IT. IT'S BETTER THAN EVER !

B) For tech users:

 • Cobra syscalls disabling improved to a new level:
 • A payload is installed in a random LV2 syscall, from where it immediatelly disables CFW syscalls (including its own) without any limitation or turnaround.
 • This directly bypasses any cobra syscalls table protections by using direct LV2 access (no poking needed).
 • No need to recompile for each existing or future cobra variant.
 • Independent from cobra, mamba, any other payload and firmware version.
 • It restores syscalls: 6(lv2 peek), 7(lv2 poke), 8(semi-lv1 peek / cobra, mamba, ps3mapi), 9(lv1 poke), 10, 11(full lv1 peek), xx(random psnpatch payload)
 • psnpatch plugin will report "Stealth3 ..." when successfully using this mode.

As I have a very limited availability for the time being, support can only be guaranteed here at PSX-PLACE :) I will still look at other forums, but not so actively as before.

Providing you configure webman to ignore the unload shortcut (I do this in my own system), it will stay resident in memory after psnpatch disables CFW.
It will not be able to mount new backups nor any CFW related function. But it still can receive the shortcuts, display the status messages and respond to shutdown and restart commands.

I find it interesting this detail ... So if active psnpatch without unload Webman, can be checking the temperature with the start + select combo Webman safe ???

Well ... If it continues to do it, is a webman related issue. I can not help you further.

(Edit)
Try to press and hold l2-r2-r3 until you see BOTH PSNPatch and webman messages.

i updated back to .41 (latest) and cleared config, then updated all settings and combo is no longer working once webman unloads :)
Amazing software. :)

I was more worried about if it was an issue or an unintended side effect or something along those lines, i'm happy to hear it was on my end, as that means its not a bug :)

Apologies about the user error, but i do like the idea of the option of leaving webman loaded or unloading it when psnpatch unlocks access.... :)

Nice to see that developer still working on new features, not only when new FW is released. Thank you KW!

PSNPatch is made (or tries to be) firmware version independent.
;)

very rarely PSNPatch should updated just because a fw is released.
Sometimes the release notes just confirm that PSNPatch is compatible with a certain version, without any code changes.

Most updates should be features related.

And this is what i try to say in my previous post. :)

I have two problems with 4.70.07 and DARKNET COBRA 4.70:
The first one happens when i disable the CFW with the L3 +R3 +R2 combo, the webman fan control seems to stop working.
And the second one, i don't see any "Stealth 3" massage when the CFW is disabled, so i suppose i'm running the old stealth mode or what?

1. That's a webman issue. But it seems to be a normal behavior.

2. Strange. What is the message you get when PSNPatch reports CFW as being disabled ?

1.- Well that "behavior" was not present on the previous version, so thats why i ask. If i remember corectly when you disable the CFW, the ps3 fan will take the "PS2 Emulator" value

2. These are the massage's i get:
Start: "PSNPatch plugin 4.70.07 (cobra cfw) PSN Acces is locked"

After the combo: "CFW DISABLED (enhanced cobra mode) PSN Access is unlocked"

Slight issue with xmb mod manager and this.
Mod manager has a habit of creating an empty plugin text file which kills psnpatch to the point that even reinstalling psnpatch and trying to run the app ends up with a black screen requiring a reset to exit rather then adding itself back into the list of plugins to load.
Only fix is to manually re add psnpatch back into the plugin text file.
Then the app works again.

Other then that its been running flawlessly. Cheers for the hard work. :)
Currently on rebug 4.70

What I would suggested is to go into the XMB MOD Manager folder and edit the boot_plugins.txt file(s) to add psnpatch.sprx support that way whenever/ whatever you install with XMB MOD Manager you always have PSNPatch support

Good thinking. :) thanks for the idea.

I'm happy with the way things are set up now anyway, but just thought I'd make the issue known.
Not too worried about the plugin not getting loaded, but the app crashing just because the plugin file is empty could be a problem.

We must understand that when PSNPatch disables CFW, that means that we will be in a near-ofw mode.
Tools that were designed to work in CFW may have unpredictable behaviors when cfw syscalls are disabled - namely being unnable to fullfill some requests (as mounting new games or keep fan controllers working).
That issue you are reporting seems to be directly connected to webman.
Even being a little bit out of the scope of PSNPatch thread, I will suggest that you try having webman unloaded when psnpatch disabled cfw and also the opposite (keep t running), then please report back the results.

2.
About the cfw disabled message,
I'm sorry, but I'm not being able to replicate your issue.
If someone else could replicate-it and detail the test conditions, I would appreciate.
(Or if you could test with other CFW, it would be great).
Anyway, don't worry much about that, all the previous algorithms are still inside psnpatch code, if stealth3 fails, it will try to use enchanced cobra mode, if it fails it will try normal stealth mode, and if it fails again, only then it will report a failed CFW disabling.
(of course that it is more secure to be in stealth3 mode).

I've reviewed the code and all seems to be as it should:
#define MODE_NORMAL (char*)"(standard cfw mode)"
#define MODE_STEALTH (char*)"(stealth cobra mode)"
#define MODE_ENHANCED_REBUG (char*)"(enhanced rebug cobra mode)"
#define MODE_ENHANCED_COBRA (char*)"(enhanced cobra mode)"
#define MODE_PAYLOAD_REBUG (char*)"(stealth3 rebug cobra mode)"
#define MODE_PAYLOAD_COBRA (char*)"(stealth3 cobra mode)"

char *get_mode_string(int cobra, int stealth, int rebug, int payload);
char *get_mode_string(int cobra, int stealth, int rebug, int payload)
{
if (!cobra)
return MODE_NORMAL;
if (stealth)
return MODE_STEALTH;
if (payload)
if (rebug)
return MODE_PAYLOAD_REBUG;
else
return MODE_PAYLOAD_COBRA;
else
if (rebug)
return MODE_ENHANCED_REBUG;
else
return MODE_ENHANCED_COBRA;
}

Well ... that I'm sorry, but I cannot do anything if other tools are changing common components.
At this moment I can only suggest you to contact that tools author to see if it is possible to adjust the issue.
(I believe that a carriage return or a space character in the first line may solve the issue, but you'll have to test it to make sure).

[edit]
Anyway, I've looked into the code and I can confirm that PSNPatch may crash if bootplugins.txt is empty.
A future psnpatch version may address this issue, but I cannot promise if and when will it be released.

But in the end, an empty bootplugins.txt is something that it is not expected - it is advisable to have the file deleted or renamed if we don't want running plugins ...

the way the XMBM+ Installer works is it can only install and replace files on the PS3, so my suggestion above would be his best alternative

Edit: or possibly adding a non existent plugin so to where the boot_plugin.txt is not empty

Ok. Then a file with just a carriage return or a space will also be enough.

Hey kokotonix now i know when PSNPatch Plugin fails to run "Stealth 3" mode: It fails when you delete the "PSN Patch 4.70.07 [stealth version].pkg" from the XMB.

Just delete the .pkg, reboot the PS3 and the enhanced cobra mode will be activated instead the stealth 3 mode.

is this the expected behavior?

Yes. It is :)
In order for stealth 3 to work, PSNPatch pkg must be installed in the xmb !

This happens because stealth3 payload loads from a file, that will be deleted if you uninstall the pkg.

Thank you very much for spotting that requisite ;)

Wait, just for sure kokotonix plasticos201193 i feel you're not talking about the same files.

plasticos201193 if i understand you correct then after deleting (only) pkg file (that one you used for install psnpatch), not installed files. Stealth 3 option is not working. Or is like kokotonix said, you deleted "program" (installed files - icon in xmb) from xmb and then stealth 3 is not working?

PSNpatch v04.70.07 - Huge Improvements to Stealth Extensions & more from KW

I mean that the application must be installed for stealth 3 to work.
And I think he meant the same.
