[PSX DESR 7000] PS1/PS2 Blue Read in Vertical Orientation

Issue(s):

• PS2 DVDs do not read
• PS2 CD (Blue) read in vertical orientation
• PS1 read in vertical orientation

Workaround(s):

• Stand the PSX upright / vertical, with ports facing the ceiling
• All read via FCMB in any orientation - and NTSC-U will read with Mechapwn rc3.4

This device has never been opened and is in perfect cosmetic condition. Is it worth opening and poking around with the KWS optical pickup, I would appreciate any pointers to documentation on this component. The PS2 Dev Wiki has been helpful in understanding the parts, and the harm in adjusting the potentiometers.

I opened the system and cleaned the lenses, removed tangled hair (wtf) from the sled rail, and gave it a bit of grease. Blue PS2 and PS1 games now play in horizontal orientation.

I have my sights in a working KWS-200A optical pickup, but I want to make sure that this is the issue, my understanding is this pickup identifies a PS2 DVD (silver / gold back) and sends it over to the PS2. Am I misguided?
