PS3HEN Queries into the Usage of portable HDDs with PSX games

I recently invested a bit of time and effort, into using a PS3 Super Slim with HEN. I figured out that I can easily load PS3 Backups off a external hard drive. Yet I discovered that the same does not apply to playing back PSX or PS1 bin/cues off one. Now I did figure that Multiman can load PSX backups off a USB stick, but for some strange reason, any attempt to get Multiman to read or indicate any PSX backups off a HDD seems to result in the files not appearing on the menu.

Is there something I'm missing? It's just that I am trying to avoid using webman MOD, given I'm trying to maintain my console's longevity. So if anyone can help me with this, please let me know.

Try loading your bin/cues with Irisman or ManaGunZ. Is your external drive formatted to NTFS? Multiman can be a bit unreliable when reading NTFS partitions.
 
So PSX loads fine off of external. What file system are you using? NTFS, FAT32 or whatever you are using. If NTFS make sure you use prepNTFS every time you add a game.

Now go into your multiMAN settings and ensure PSX games are being scanned and not being overlooked by multiMAN. Also try another manager. While I like the look of multiMAN and some of its functions it can be a bit more for advanced users. Especially switching between multiMAN and mmCM. IRIS forks are simple, easy to use and way better support for NTFS drives.

Now as to why you will not use webMAN not sure what you mean. As long as you use the plugin how it installs there is no chance of ruining your system. Been using it since day one of it being a simple POC and PSX-SCENE years ago. It is by far the easiest and most efficient way I manage my game library. It's easy to bypass upon boot, remove or anything else you need.
 
The reason why I'm not using webMAN is because it produces wear and tear on the fan. And given the difficulty I now have finding PS3 systems, that's why I'm trying to prolong its life.

I tried formatting the Portable HDD in both FAT32 and NTFS, and yet MultiMan doesn't read the data on those hard drives in respect to the PSX Bin/Cue files. It works well with USB Thumb Sticks, but for some reason, it doesn't pick any up on the external HDD. I also tried it on IRISMAN, with the same result. What option exactly do I need to use to allow MMCM or Multiman to pick up the files on the hard drive?
 
Some drives just do not work on PS3. I had a USB 3.0 one that refused to work. Also when you format use MBR not GPT. Set cluster size to 64k. Then make sure you run prepNTFS before plugging in the drive.

Note if the drive is over 2tb these format options are important or the system will not see the drive. As for webMAN once it starts up go into settings and set fan speed to 33% and save the settings. No more jet plane when it starts.

Been using it like this for years on many systems CFW & HEN and never has a fan failed me. Will actually extend the life of your system. Keeping it cooler and helps with the thermal paste.

So will 33% count as the normal range for the fan? Or can I have it slightly higher for safety's sake? (like 36-40%)

33% is a higher then stock syscon settings and steady. You can go as high as you with just gets a bit noisy over 33% for me.
