PS2 Question about Different Methods of Launching PSX Games with Popstarter

Hi! First thread here just to ask about something that I can't seem to find a concrete answer for:

Is there any difference between the method of launching VCDs that requires you to rename the POPStarter ELFs and the method that uses a GUI to execute POPSTARTER.ELF by selecting the VCDs?

What I want to know is if there are any differences in compatibility or in what the emulator is doing or if they ultimately do the exact same thing but in a different way.

I've read through what seems to me most of the ShaolinAssasin and krHACKen POPStarter Documentation wiki, and Ctrl+F'd through the changelog, but I only see explanations between the differences between the New Launch method (that has all VCDs in one single __.POPS partition) and the old/alternative Launch methods (that have one partition per VCD).

I do not plan on using the old or alternative launch method since having a single partition is a lot more convenient, but I do use OPL DB to select the VCDs and executing the single POPSTARTER.ELF.

I'm just wondering if the method that renames the POPStarter ELFs is better in some way or if I should be using that instead.

The loading in the psx section (OPL DB) and the loading of the "ELF" in the applications (Official OPL) do exactly the same.
The difference is that in one you are using the "safe" version (OPL Official) and in the other you never know how it will work (OPL DB).

I see. Got it, thank you!

Thank you for the heads up! Read up a little bit more on the conflict presented in the link, and it looks like it's in my best interest to use the Official OPL.

Is switching to the official version of OPL as simple as switching out the OPNPS2LD.ELF file for the Official elf in the OPL folder or will I have to somehow uninstall OPL and re-install it?

I recommend doing a clean installation, that is, deleting all the OPL files on the "Memory card" and then installing the official version.

That is NOT CORRECT!
OPL DB links to ONE ELF, elfldr executes POPStarter in another way from RAM and calls it via/with parameters/arguments.

The PS1-Page WAS a "copy" of the APPS-page before though...!

"Explosive" buddy, if you do not understand the context of "something", at least I invite you to ask with confidence.
first before saying something is "not right."

There is no mistake in what I said because my answer alludes to the fact that in both versions it loads the games regardless of how it is done.

the rest is "technical". I told you once and I repeat it, you should not use technicalities in front of an audience that is learning.
P.D. I'm still waiting for the link from where you got that the PS2 "does not have firmware" it's not to be annoying but rather the opposite, I'm worried about the wrong information that is being put into your head.

I am still a little unclear on something. In the POPStarter Documentation & Stuff, one of the software requirements under the hdd-mode is "
"

Really, I wanted to know the difference between these two launch methods. Is the ONE ELF OPL DB uses the same as the POPSTARTER.ELF in the documentation?
I am under the impression that this is the case, and that the Official OPL uses the former method (with the multiple POPStarter ELFs) since the Apps Page has to be used.

If You delete OPL config, You are fine for sure. No need to get rid of everything.
This would be all the cfg files in the +OPL partition and the OPL folder in the common partition, correct?
