Question about jailbreak and PUP files(PS3)

I downloaded the PUP file of PS3 from the internet and when I opened it I saw some PKG files. Of course I went through a question like if I could jailbreak the PS3 any other way I wonder if I would change them in my mind. But I wouldn't want to test it on my PS3, and I haven't tried it yet. Is there a good way to test this, and is it possible for me to insert my own code into a PKG as I thought?

You can modify any firmware package resources - that's why there are CFWs in the first place.
And the reason why You can't by that alone install CFW over OFW (past 3.55) is because You will not be able properly signing them.

However, do not do that. ;] We don't need another bunch of CFW different from others just by graphics, XMB mods and apps, and probably You will end with soft or even permbrick if You don't know what You doing.
