PS2 Question MC annihilator

I have a PS2 memory card image and I'm going to copy it to a new memory card using MC Annihilator. Is it necessary to separately format this new memory card? Does it have some files or does the Annihilator format it during the copying process?

Sector by sector image means that all sectors are copied. Restoring sector by sector image means that all will be overwritten by these from image. So your question have no sense. ;)

I thought that before restoring the image it was necessary to format the MC to not leave traces of old files, but I think that this formatting would generate unnecessary wear on the MC card's NAND flash memory.

You restore an image sector by sector, meaning it overwrites everything sector by sector. There's no need to format, as Berion said.

Depends on how much do you power them over time. Be sure to power them up and read their contents once per year or two. Also, make backups in other places, just in case.
Some Power on MC one once year or necessáry refresh files New copy filés one once year?

Buy MMCE and you will never worry about dead MC (in meaning: that you will be able to easily setup everything on PC). For data safety, refresh charges of NAND cells once per i.e year. But best practice is just backup saves on USB and move to PC. No reason to keep them on vendor lock device 20 years old.

That's a very good question and the answer is, that it depends!

For example if you have a PS1-MC with "pages" or "banks" - depending on the implementation - those might need to be switched.

As for flash and NAND: The cell needs to be "accessible" but AFAIR no writing needed.

Keywords, if you are interested:
  • "Flash gate substrate discharge"
  • Floating Gate
  • Floating Mosfet
  • Floating Transistor
"Charge trap flash (CTF)" is specifically made to avoid the issue btw.!
