PS3 [Rebug 4.82.1] Black Screen in some games

Hi Guyz,

I tested all the games in my library (not much, 28) and I identified two games that give me a black screen when launching them, on of which is "Deus Ex Human Revolution Director's Cut", for which I did some extensive testing to confirm that the problem was the Rebug 4.82.1 CFW :

- Game results in black screen whateverer the launching method (ISO or folder, using webman, webmanMOD, mman or IRISman, internal or external HDD)
- Black screen occurs whatever version of the game (BLES or BLUS)
- Black screen occurs with the original Blu-Ray (I own the BLES version of the game)
- Black screen occurs whatever method is used to create .iso (Iris, MM, genps3iso, makeps3iso)

However, game works 100% on CFW 4.82 Ferrox and CFW Rebug 4.81.2.

I did some research and found out that someone had the same problem on Rogero 4.50 CFW and fixed it by updating to HABIB 4.70 CFW (http://www.ps3hax.net/showthread.php?t=95242) so it definitely seems that the CFW is the reason for the black screen here.

I tried to contact the rebug team earlier this week to see if there knew about this bug but no answers so far (fingers crossed!).

Does anyone have any idea why this is happening and how I could patch this (obviously I'd like to stay on rebug) ?

Thank you very much for your help,

Have you tried disabling COBRA on 4.82.1 LITE? I'd like to know if the issue is coming from Cobra or the CFW itself.

Hi Joonie, really sorry for my late answer I've been away for a couple of days.
I juste came home and tried to remove Cobra but it still dosen't work. Will try to do some extensive testing (format, launcher etc.) and get back to you

Encountering same situation here. Fortunately, only encountering it the following purchased titles:
- Deus Ex Human Revolution Director's Cut (NPEB01805)
- Guacamelee (NPEB01141)

Interestingly, as a workaround I tested the Deus Ex Human Revolution (NPEB00791) and it works fine. I'm running 4.82.1 with webMAN 1.47.06 MOD. Tested with Cobra disabled, no change. Bummer. Any suggested settings to test for effect?

Cheers

I'll have to get the debug output for the game when it's crashing or blackscreened. if you can try that with debug payload with socat and give us output then it will help us a lot to find out what's causing the issue.

Honestly I cannot think of anything why the CFW itself would cause the issue, and interestingly "NPEB00791" works while "NPEB01805" not working.

@Joonie - happy to capture the log... if I had the steps. Ran a few searches for doing this and only came up with pre-4.82.1 debug payload download references... So rather than risk bricking myself, could you point me in right direction and I will get on it.

Cheers

Is your PS3 wired? if so you can capture the log through UDP port. Install the socat and cygwin (32 bit or 64 bit)

@bguerville explained it really well on his post http://www.psx-place.com/threads/sm...performance-stability.13078/page-3#post-76347

for your case, since you're on 4.82.1 You need to use the debug payload for 4.82.1 LITE.

Then capture the log while the game is crashing and report back to us.

Yes - wired. Have socat. Almost there... got the stage2.cex.debug but hit a roadblock renaming the stage2.cex within the /dev_flash/rebug/cobra file. Ugh, it's probably a simple solution. Assume its either due to permissions (e.g. 644) or that it's in use? Tried via FTP and via the MMON file manager.

You need a write access via dev_blind or dev_rebug (REBUG TOOLBOX's FTP)

Progress! So on the debug stage2.cex. Unfortunately, I am not getting any UDP packets on socat. So either a) there are none, b) setting somewhere preventing generation of log entries or c) network filtering the UDP somewhere. Any settings in QA or Rebug I should be checking?

You are supposed to reboot after replacing the payload, did you reboot?

Oh yes, numerous reboots (shutdown / power up). When things hang with the Deus I am still (usually) able to get into webMan to remote shut down, indicating the box still has a pulse behind the black screen.

I think I just found the issue, I'll upload the fix as soon as I test.

That's true

I just test it now and install Guacamelee (NPEB01141) and then active it with .edat using psnpatch. But when i start it just freeze and stuck on black screen. My FW is 4.82 Lite Rebug

I'm aware of the issue and hotfix will be released.
