It's already the case Red Dead Revolver works on PS3 and is an official PS2 Classic. It doesn't need widescreen patched given the game already has a 16:9 option.
Buried deep in a list of PS2 480p patches is a patch for Red Dead Revolver which removes the black bars at the top and bottom of the screen, also lowering the HUD:
Serial = SLUS-20500
Name = Red Dead Revolver
Region = NTSC-U
[patches = E169BAF8]
// Hacks by ?
// patch=1,EE,2073BF14,word,3F866666 // Lower HUD
// patch=1,EE,2073C604,word,00000000 // Disable black bars
[/patches]

Red Dead Revolver is one of a small number of titles where the PS2 Patch Engine tool can't modify the ISO.
Is there a way of doing this with CONFIG?
