Ultimate Toolbox

PS3 [RELEASE] ★ Ultimate Toolbox v2.03 - It Only Does Everything! v2.03 (FW 4.84 - 4.91)

1: Ok, I will have a look at that. You do need to still choose time as the sorting method in the side menu, and it is possible they are sorted Z to A by default, so try change the direction of the time sorting.
My mistake. It's working. It was sorting by Recently Played. I guess this will be a common question.

EDIT:
Maybe Sort By Format when showing All games should be modified too to sort by name.
It seems to sort by creation date.

2. Yes, I have tried to add either "XMB Refresh Required" or "Reboot Required" to confirmation dialogue where it applies, but there might be a better way to do it so it's more clear.
I haven't used xai_plugin, but I think it supports multiple commands in a single request like wMM.
I think a simple popup will be enough... it's not invasive and reminds the user what have to do (Reload XMB or reboot).
I know the option says what to do, but the long text and the tiny font doesn't help much.

3. Oh, it seems fine here. How are you triggering the freeze exactly? I can hold the PS button here while in the music player without any issues. But I might be misunderstanding you on what's triggering the freeze.
I go to Music column, select an album, press TRIANGLE, press X on Play, then press PS to return to XMB.
The player continues playing the music, but the XMB stops responding.

4. I did add a new option there for you. It's called "Add Reboot Options". It's not exactly the same as your xml as I added confirmation dialogues with warnings to the advanced reboot options. But it should do what you wanted. Power off with no confirmation on the top level, with reboot options under that also on the top level. Let me know if you wanted something different.
It sounds great... I don't mind for the extra confirmation dialogs. Anyway these options are not frequently used.

Sure, Will add them in the next update..
Awesome! I'm sure they will be very popular.

Yeah I will look into modding the all option too. I had not thought of that.

You are right, and being able to show a custom pop up with xai would be amazing but I do not think it is possible with current xai plugins. The plugin is great, but I am kinda limited in what it can do. No mixing an matching different types of operations, so I can not delete one file and copy another in the same operation for example. Also only 3 deletes, OR 3 copies, OR 3 moves possible per command etc. It does the job though.
I go to Music column, select an album, press TRIANGLE, press X on Play, then press PS to return to XMB.

Ok, damn. I am getting the freeze now, I guess I always either exited with circle or used your new combo so never noticed, your combo is a work around for this issue for now. That is a shame. I will try to remake the rco but it might not be something I can fix. I know I had to compress the image a lot to make it fit as any tiny bit bigger would cause issues with other icons on the impose screen vanishing. I think there is some limit to the size of rcos coded in somewhere. I do not think its a limitation of the what the system can handle, but rather an imposed restriction of some kind.

Yeah. See what you think sure.

TBH I do not like the confirmation dialogues either but it gives a chance to provide more information to the user about exactly what is going to happen so they can learn something too while using the toolbox, It would be nice to a have a version of the toolbox for experienced users, with no confirmations on anything, but it's too much work. :)

One thing I notice about using your button combo when streaming video with the browser that is kinda cool. It's actually safer and less likely to cause a freeze than playing a local video as the background. The reason is that if you try and do something that is not allowed it will ask you to close the browser first, where as with a local video it just attempts to do it and freezes in some cases.

nice release and I will definately take a look at it. these are the kind of things I am also missing on ps3 cfw, too few general xmb mods. well, I have also a full customized one (will make a hd capture soon :D), but this I cannot share, since it is to most of you just weird. it is based on the "JMB" from demonhades

Cheers, Sounds good. sure I will take a look when you release. I am in no rush to put out another update for a while unless there is some major issue discovered.. Sick of the sight of XMBML now for a bit. :)
hehe, I know this feeling of yours' exactly. I am always working in parallel with other stuff, just to distract my mind when it gets too 'overloaded'

I really congratulate you, the job you do is not easy, it requires patience, I hope your program will reach a major level like webman or multiman.Greetings from Turkey

Features I think you should add: (Remarry Bluray, Factory Mode, Red Screen Fix, Minimum Firmware Informer) these are not available in evilnat cfw.

Thank you.

I left out the Factory Service Mode stuff as it can cause issues if not ran from flash, those options should not be ran from HDD like this mod.

I could include the minimum firmware informer though, I forgot about that. Thanks for the idea.

I want to report a problem, the Impose Mode faulty problem is this: Everything I hold down the PS button works normally, but when I try to return to the main XMB, XMB Freezes once I click it.

Another feature that you could include is noBD toggler:

HDD1 mounter could be useful too, to explore it with XMB File Manager.

It would be nice an option to promote either Package Manager Pro, File Explorer or both to the root of Game category.

Also Package Manager Pro could be the second module. It would reduce the number of clicks to reach it.

@DeViL303 in the Screensaver Backgroudns

You can use via webman a command to open the url ( video stream) and then after 5 seconds toggle the GO HOME command.

The overall users will don't know the command to use it as background video =)

The way I see it the webman feature is separate and optional. This works without webMAN currently,

Also for me at least the video does not stay playing unless you do the button combo with the correct timing, requires pressing L2 slightly before the other buttons to start it rewinding.

This is not a real update, but just a small hotfix to v1.02, I have not changed the version number as these were very minor changes. Same links still work from POST #75 but I have added them again here at the bottom too.
  • Typo "delete resouces" instead of "delete resources" on the remove addon module options
  • Typo "filee" instead of "file" on the Install coldboot logo from USB option
  • Uninstall extended download plugin option was not working due to a typo in the copy command: "orignal" instead of "original"
  • Screensaver download and stream for Flying Light (Silent) was broken due to "www" instead of "dl" in the URL
  • Removed the impose plugin mod due to freezes, I might add it back some time.
  • Added minimum version checker to Backup Utility > Dump Tools
Thanks to @Wr0zen and @aldostools for testing it and bringing these issues to my attention!

Download Ultimate Toolbox v1.02 BASE pkg (30MB)

Download Ultimate Toolbox v1.02 FULL pkg (386MB)

Fantastic toolbox hands down, love, love, love. Your crushing this! So far, early reporting,

Issues found:
Update toolbox causes server error: http status code 404

Feature request:
Preview pain, ex: show some of the dynamic mods in action. I realize the static mods show accordingly ( although a full screen preview would be awesome for both if possible )

Under backup utility:
Ability to backup installed game with updates & dlc to a single pkg

New homebrew app section, maybe linked with brewology or something of the sort if possible in order to have most current updated sources.

With your latest visual customization mods, this has brought a nice easy way to freshen up my ps3's. I love the whole toolbox. Just what we needed, do keep up your nice touches to the ps3. It really is a great machine.

Thanks to you and all involved, you all shine on this classic hardware which as you still show, has a lot more to explore and share.
Cheers

Thanks for the report, the update option is not working, damn I must have broken that somewhere. That will have to wait until next time now to fix as I can not fix broken dropbox links remotely.

Thanks for the suggestion, I will look into that for the next version. I could have an online full screen image or video showing how the mods would look on the XMB. Internet would be required though for the previews as including them would make the pkg very big.

That I cannot do really, it would require a dedicated plugin. For now all I can do is copy/move/rename/delete from static paths. Hopefully someday xai_plugin gets some new features like game dumping etc.

I might do that, tbh I am hesitant to include stuff like that as it always needs updating and I do not always have free time. I have a package downloader module ready to go with almosty everything on brewology included, but almost every week there is a new version of something and then it needs updating again so I can never get ahead with it, maintaining an apps section is a full time job that I do not want tbh.

I might add a package downloader section with stuff that never gets updated, like Homebrew Games and Official Demos. This way its not out of date 2 weeks later.

@aldostools you probably have a deep understanding of this from working on back up managers. What is required to be done to a raw folder dump of a disc game to make it work and is it complicated or simple? What I mean is I can use xai_plugin to copy the files off a disc and into a temporary location like dev_hdd0/GAMES/XXXXXXXXX/ , but the dumps never work when mounted. I assume there is some change made by backup managers to the files when dumping a game via backup manager.

The dumps I can make nowwith xai_plugin are basically just like if I was to copy the files off the disc via windows explorer. It would be cool if xai could dump and mount games as it would mean it could all be done without cobra and without any application. Any thoughts?

When a real PS3 disc is mounted there is an encryption layer, so the files in USRDIR are encrypted. The PNG images and PARAM.SFO are readable, though. To solve this issue you only need to call the following syscall before start copying the files.

system_call_1(36, (u64) "/dev_bdvd");

Ok, I do not think that can be done with xai_plugin currently but maybe someday, but good to know thanks.

I finally got around to trying out some of the new features in 1.02 and I came across something. I wouldn't call it a bug but more of a slight inconvenience. After downloading from within toolbox, we have to close out the browser to get back to XMB. Is it possible to just kick us back to where we were previously on the XMB, the menu location that we were at before getting taken to the browser for the download?

Example: Downloading a theme,

Browser gets launched for the download
The download completes
The user presses O and gets taken to a blank white screen
The user then has to press O again to trigger exit browser menu
After exiting the browser, the user is taken back to XMB but not to the same toolbox menu location that the user was previously at
A user then has to navigate back to the same menu location if the user was wanting to download something else from within that menu

Again, it's more of a convenience thing. If it is possible I think it'd be a nice QoL thing. Another thing, for the feature of playing media while browsing the XMB, this might be more of a webman thing, but either a notification popup or something in the text for Visual Customizations that let's a user know what the combo actually is would be nice.

Me, personally, I have been reading these threads since @aldostools introduced the combo and had previous awareness of said combo. But unless a user is sifting through these threads they might not be aware of this feature and just how cool it is. Or maybe add the information to the OP? One last thing, Show IP on XMB, is it possible to reposition this at all? If so, would be nice to have the four corners of the screen as options.

Example:

Show IP on XMB > Show IP Address Only > Position Options: Top Left, Top Right, Bottom Left, Bottom Right.

For that last idea, it's just a thought, not needed but might be cool if it isn't too much extra work, or if it's possible at all.

And as many others have said, this toolbox is awesome, must have app imo. Thanks for everything @DeViL303.

Edit:

I forgot to mention XMB menu sounds. It would be nice if there was different sound packs for XMB. I don't know if you have accumulated any over the years like your other resources but it's another idea I had after testing some of the themes. I found a few themes that had nice XMB menus sounds but didn't really like the icon sets for the themes and thought to myself, if only the toolbox had a sounds only customization option.

Also, I've seen @LuanTeles has PS5 menu sounds for XMB in a video he linked. It could be a nice addition.

Don't think I can do anything with that kind of thing, that's just the way the system works.

I cant do pop ups either via xai_plugin. Really that is a webMAN feature and not a feature of this toolbox, I do not want to make this toolbox webMAN dependent really as it limits the user base.

I do not think that is possible. Well I guess the coordinates are soemwhere in the xmb_plugin.sprx but I have no idea where or how to reverse it, if someone does explain that then I might be able to add that feature.

I am really trying to avoid including too many rco mods, as they all conflict with each other. I do not want to end up in a situation like Ps3 Pro mod where he needs to include over 3000 rcos for just a few options. When luanteles releases his new ps3 pro mod I will take a look at it and see what might be suitable to include here. I want this to remain as FW independent as possible. I do not mind including rcos like software_update_plugin.rco as those have never been modded by anyone really except me, so theres no other mods to potentially conflict with.
