Ultimate Toolbox

PS3 [RELEASE] ★ Ultimate Toolbox v2.03 - It Only Does Everything! v2.03 (FW 4.84 - 4.91)

I have a question why the update functions are disabled and why I can't activate it

For those other update options you need to have PUP files in the folder dev_hdd0/updater/01/. You can put up to 20 PUP files in there. Then those options will be enabled, that is completely separate to the options in Ultimate Toolbox which are for disabling the update from internet option and disabling the system update icon completely.

So each pup has to be placed in it's own folder with number, i.e (01/02/03/etc.)? or are are they all placed in the folder dev_hdd0/updater/01/? Is this for Game updates only or could you apply FW as well? I thought firmware had to be done from Recovery Mode. I didn't even realize you could apply a FW in this way, or am I wrong and that's not what it's used for.

You can make separate folders, or you can put them all into the 01 folder. Either way works fine.

This is only for Firmware updates, not game updates.

The handy thing is you can name them anything you want, "Rebug.484.2_REX.PUP" etc or whatever you like.

That pretty slick! BTW, I'm not seeing those extra options under my "System Update".
The one's from his first image:

Any idea why?

If you are on normal CEX CFW you need to be QA flagged, then do the QA flag button combo and then enable "system update debug" in debug settings. Once its enabled it will stay enabled.

If you are on Rebug REX/D-REX you can just go to debug settings and enable it.

Note: If you are on Rebug REX/D-REX that there are 2 separate debug settings menus, DEX and CEX QA, you need to have the CEX QA one enabled in Rebug Toolbox to access the System Update Debug option.

Is there a video narration to enable updates?

You already have it enabled. Just put some PUP files into dev_hdd0/updater/01/ and it will work.

Also now everytime you update from USB it will give you the option of saving the PUP to HDD for use in the future.

How do I update over the internet. Yes it's a bit silly but I don't want my PS3 to lose its features

"Update Via Internet" requires your ps3 to have internet access first off and it downloads Latest OFW. So if you're trying to keep your CFW, I recommend not touching that option.

Don't update via internet. That feature is disabled in your CFW most likely. Some CFW has it enabled so you could change CFW.

Don't think of it like losing a feature, think about it like you have gained a feature. :) Now you have the feature "Internet update disabled for safety". This is done to stop kids/friends from updating to OFW by mistake and causing hassle for you.

I want to say a new idea, I wonder if the feature that will change the PSN logos will be brought or can new Ads be added to the What's New section?
I might add some stuff like that someday, but mods like that are specific to each CFW, so it makes things complicated. For now I rather not make this firmware dependent. People always install those kind of mods on the wrong FW and then have issues.

Ultimate Toolbox v1.03
  • Fixed Module Download links and Toolbox Update link
  • Numbered all mods in the menus for easier identification by users (001 to xxx)
  • Rebuilt the Wave options menu so now the waves are also an optional downloadable/removable module
  • Added over 250 completely new wave options, now you can choose the waves left/right colors and their speed. They are all based on the 0.91 DECR wave.
  • To declutter the menus the Remove Module options now only show in Toolbox Setup (if the module is installed)
  • Tidied up labels on some menus
  • Added 2 PS4 style themes to theme downloader
  • Base version now only 19MB due to creating the wave module.

Download HERE

Due to the significant changes I recommend uninstalling v1.02 before installing this version, this is just so you do not have some extra unused crap left on HDD. You can do that via the Toolbox Setup menu > Uninstall option.

I have not added any extra rcos yet or touched package manager. I will look at that stuff for the next update. Making this new wave menu took my time and I want to get those module links fixed so releasing this now.

I've decided against including full screen previews of the mods, it's just too much work for me to consider taking thousands of screenshots or videos.

Quick look at the new wave menu:

@LuanTeles please do me a favour and don't take the new stuff from this for your Toolbox mod anymore, I'm sure you understand, I want this mod to have at least some exclusive features to try and build a bit of a userbase and maybe ask for donations myself someday to try cover my own substantial server costs. If PS3 Pro mod users want these new features there is nothing to stop them from installing this toolbox alongside your mod.

Changing the left/right wave colors looks pretty damn good. Can't wait to test it out later. Also I was thinking, the other day when I seen @aldostools add a circle icon to eliminate spinning icon. I don't know if you were planning on using that circle or if you had you own ideas about it but a simple blank file icon or text file icon would look cleaner imo and I think you already have some in the toolbox itself so it'd fit the current aesthetic. I know @aldostools was just showcasing the idea but I was just hoping you wouldn't use a circle for that lol.

I didnt include that yet as it modifies the main explore rco, This would have different color icons included for Rebug/Evilnat/Overflow so its kinda hassle. Hopefully we can get some mods like that built into new CFW going forward.

I understand that you didn't like the white circle. Honestly I also would prefer a blank file icon as you suggested.
Indeed that was the first icon that I tried. The problem with it is that the File Explorer shows that icon rotating (trying to load the picture from the file). Therefore the blank file icon looks worse (it looks like a fan). To dissimulate the annoying rotation I used the white circle.

The rotation issue should be solved patching explore_plugin.sprx, but I wanted a simple solution.

Additionally, explore_plugin uses the same "loading" when loading other icons in XMB.
Replacing it with a "file icon" would look weird. But the white circle does not look so bad.

Hmm, I understand. It makes sense then why you did what you did. I figured it was a spinning icon because it defaulted to it due to the lack of an icon for un-openable files from within the File explorer. So I had it all wrong. I see why you went with the simple solutions as @DeViL303 wants the toolbox to work without having to patch things for different FW.

I hadn't tested it with the white circle but I can see it being ok, kind of like a bullet point to mark a file.
