PS4 [Research]PS2 emulator configuration on PS4

@nifengyuexia @Vika23

Given the last few posts in this thread, I prefer to intervene now before someone gets tempted to turn this "disagreement" into something even less pleasant which would lead the moderation team to remove the postings & take whatever appropriate action, we would all prefer to avoid that.

I am asking you both nicely, please end this "thing" right here right now, no more argument postings about it & no replies to me either, that would only derail the thread further.
Let's move on & get this thread back on track with focus on the topic.
Sure! Totally agree! Was have opinion but not want offtop too much

So back on the subject...

got a lua to work for Valkyrie Profile 2 just patched the iso with only disable game protection code and put the rest in lua patch. now can have all of Maori-Jigglypuff performance codes.

those codes were provided by Stayhye here so i just copied them made a lua and used jak emulator. i did not patched them to iso i prefer patches in lua.

As for Valkyrie Profile 2 if you have the option to use either PAL or US version than use US version its the better one, does not need no-interlacing codes because it has a built in progressive mode and i kinda noticed the audio in the cutscene and gameplay visuals were better in US version. just patch the US version iso with these codes and use StarOcean emulator with --vu-hack-triace=1 command.

I tried all night to check what could be achieved on Haunting Ground, Rule of Rose and Valkyrie Profile 2.
tried to run them with Jak, Jak V2, Jak X, Fahrenheit, Star Ocean, GTA SA, RECV. came with different result each time, but basically for the game to be played without major image issue, you need to apply most of Maori-Jigglypuff code. and frankly for horror games like Haunting Ground and Rule of Rose it looks bad, no ambiance, no darkness, looks like PS1 shader, so I give up. better play it on PS3 or PCSX2 for a good experience. T_T

As for Valkyrie Profile 2, you can remove lots of Maori-Jigglypuff code and the game still run great, can add shadow, sun ray, and light effect back but you night to slightly alter the code.
Also adding:
--gs-use-mipmap=1
--gs-kernel-cl="mipmap"
--gs-kernel-cl-up="mipmap2x2"
to the config help with the shinny effect on aliasing edges.
but for hell sake, I just can't find a way to remove the constant shaking of the screen. . . .

Quick question, what emulator did you find more stable to run DEF JAM Fight for NY (SLUS-21004) ?
with Jak V2 and Rogue it run perfectly fine, but I get random crash once in a while after 3-4 fight or so . . .

Also if anyone need it, I found a way to apply cheat code to the ISO for MONEY and POINTS so you can unlock everything and get your main fighter to max lvl.

try KOF2000

@LittleTale yes Maori-Jigglypuff code is not for everyone, you just apply the one you like for example removing fog from silent hill games is like not playing silent hill at all. it just comes to preference. apply the below code to remove shaking from PAL version of Valkyrie Profile 2.

Code:
//no interleacing By felixthecat1970
patch=1,EE,00122e14,word,64420000 //64420008
patch=1,EE,0012307c,word,64420000 //64420008
patch=1,EE,0011FB40,word,DC201000 // DC221000 ld v0,0x1000(at)

Sadly I am using the US version as it's the only one that have been patch to feature original Japanese Audio. and even with Progressive scan on, the screen still shakes like hell...

Quick question, I'm not really familiar with PS3 emulation... does the PS3 (CFW) display the PS2 games at native 480P resolution or does it apply a 2x upscale to it as the PS4 does ? I was considering getting a PS3 for easier PS2 emulation, but i don't really know a lot about it. I've read that PS3 plays 95% of PS2 games flawlessly (Not the CEHA/B backward compatible model), is it true ?

PS3 is great for ps2 emulation. with CFW you can run iso directly with native 480p or you can make pkg for ps3 also which upscale it to 720p. upscale on ps3 does not look as great as upscale of ps4 but compatibility is far greater.

Thanks for the quick answer. so your recommendation is "get a cheap used PS3 and enjoy PS2 games on it" ?
because I wanted to replay games like "The Bouncer" but I realize it's impossible because it uses pressure sensible button to register different kind of attack . . .

yes or if you luck take fat version of ps3 with 4 usb ports:excitement: with official ps2 discs support:fat:

the ps3 fat 60gb and 20gb version are fully backward compatible but has overheating issues and you may get YLOD. if you find one in working condition than its most likely repaired and you wil get YLOD again. the safe way is to get ps3 slim and even safer one is to get ps3 superslim.

Yes get a cheap PS3 and enjoy PS2 games on it. and not just PS2 games you can play PS1 and some PSP games on it too.

Yeah I will get a slim one. some people around me sell the FAT that read PS2 disc at resonable price on facebook marketplace, but all of them looks like there have been used a lot and have lots of scratch on it etc.... plus I read online that a lot of component of the FAT are doomed to failed eventually even if you take good care of it, change thermal paste, etc. . . looks too complicated, also I almost don't have any PS2 disc anymore.
but is the software emulation of PS2 on PS3 Slim as good as the Hardware one on the FAT ?

Definitely not. My old but dead CECHAxx was perfect but we all know why.

Now I have CECH-20xxB with CFW and I can say software emulation is not even good IMO:( I see temperatures of HW jumps dramatically too. I must change a termal paste as I bought this slim on Monday and use for a while to be honest. Maybe I find some gold inside?;)

EDIT: Excuse me Agrippa. I haven't noticed your answer:oops:
