PS3 RetroArch CE (Unofficial - Community Edition) Beta 4

what i found weird its the first time its doing that after several use of Retroarch CE
may i ask you where i will find the theses .cfg files inside the system ? (path) please ?

Yes, that's what is happening to most of us!

Navigate to retroarch's root dir with IRISMAN and there you will find those .cfg files

I can't make Netplay work. I tried joining games from the Netplay host list and it either closes the content after a long black screen or it freezes at it (RetroArch does not respond). Sometimes the webman shortcut to reboot/turn off works. Sometimes it doesn't. Often the web interface responds.

When hosting a game, I first load it, then start Netplay host (because it doesn't autostart the other way around), then Netplay says I've joined as player 1 then the game just freezes forever but RetroArch is responsive and I can just close it.

More info: I was first behind CGNAT and it wouldn't freeze. When connecting as a client it would directly close the core after attempting to join without notice. When hosting the game it would just show a notice that it's not reachable or something of the like (because of the port being unreachable due to the CGNAT) but it wouldn't freeze either.

It seems like a bug or does it work for you?

Edit: Imagine I requested being taken out of the CGNAT just for this very reason and it doesn't work :biggrin2: My luck. Anyways I would have requested it sooner or later for something else for sure.

Update: I have tried hosting Tetris in MAME and it didn't freeze. It's just the sound stopped working. I installed RetroArch on Android to try and connect and indeed the Netplay works. Audio does work on the Android side so it's just breaking at the PS3 side.

Only DosBox-svn works.
@Crystal , Hi. If i want to play old PC game like Innocent Until Caught on Dosbox you suggert to get the SVN version or the Other one work as well ?

I plan to mainly use PS3 Controller if possible , mainly for point & click game like the one mentionned above.

PS3 Controller are supported on both core DOS (DOSBox) & DOS (DOSBos-SVN) ??
( I assume not , I will probably still need a wireless/dongle mouse & keyboad!

EDIT : it seem the DOS-Box Pure would be the best option for the PS3 Retroarch CE
....any chance to have it ported on your beloved CE ?

Does anyone use an NTFS external drive to store ROMS and use it with Retroarch CE or FB NEO RL Plus? When I try to perform a manual scan in Retroarch CE the NTFS drive isn't visible.

Here's my testing so far:

  • Tried two different NTFS formatted drives and neither is visible when trying to perform a manual scan in Retroarch CE.
  • Reinstalled Retroarch CE(latest version) but that didn't alter the behaviour.
  • Added a line in to the retroarch.cfg to make the drive visible rgui_browser_directory = "/dev_ntfs0:/ROMS/" and while the directory does show up under Load Content, Retroarch doesn't actually display the contents of the folder.
  • To determine whether allocation unit size made a difference I tried a 500gb NTFS formatted drive with the default 4096 bytes and also a 2TB NTFS formatted drive with 32k sector allocation size. Neither was visible in Retroarch.
  • Both NTFS drives are working when mounting ISO games via Irishman or Managunz although I need to run PrepISO before the drives will be scanned by Webman Mod. I'm assuming the drives are not faulty, they scan OK on a pc with no bad sectors.
  • I've also tried both PS3 USB ports and the behaviour is the same in both. I am using a PS3 Slim CECH 25xx

If I can't get the NTFS option to work then I will move more internal ISO games to the external drive and store the ROMS internally or I could reformat the larger external drive with two partitions, a larger NTFS partition for ISO's and a smaller FAT32 for ROMS. Keen to hear from anyone who can perform a manual scan in Retroarch accessing ROMS on a NTFS drive to see if I'm missing a step somewhere, Thanks!

UPDATE
I went ahead and converted the 2TB external drive into two partitions
600GB FAT32 MBR Primary partition for ROMS
1.4TB NTFS MBR logical partition for ISO's.

This works for what I wanted to achieve. I still don't see the NTFS partition in Retroarch but the FAT32 partition shows up fine and I can scan ROMS no problem. I'd still be keen to hear if anyone can access an NTFS drive from within Retroarch CE but I thought I'd share my workaround solution in case anyone is in a similar position and this workaround might offer a possible solution.

Found it a few pages in the front. Greedy RA needs to be set to VGA-like theme to not overstrain PS3's small weewee. :biggrin2:

Old Post:
Fresh PS3 CFW installation. Problems with FBNEO:

So, I have a freshly modded PS3 on which I have also installed the recent version of Retroarch. 8 and 16 Bit consoles are all running fine. But I have problems with Arcade and NeoGeo MVS games that I have picked out of a recent (Jan 24) FBNeo set from archive.

Some games are not opening up but get stuck in a black screen after launch. In fact, the whole PS3 seems to hang up then. I did some testing and it appears to me that the file size of the games zip-archive is related to the problem. The sweet spot seems to be around the 24-25 MB mark. For example: Real Bout Fatal Fury Special with 24,287MB opens fine but Last Blade 1 with 25.69MB leads to a crash. All games above are crashing as well. E.G Garou with 70.0xxMB. This is also not only related to NeoGeo games. Knights of Valour 2 with 24.38 crashes as well. The same goes for COM games like SNK vs. Capcom with a filesize of 81.XXXMB.

Is this a known problem? Is the PS3 incapable of opening larger archives? I have tried to use the games in unziped folders but then Retroarch does not recognize them when scanning the content.

Most likely this is a memory problem, bigger games (memory-wise, file size has nothing to do with this) won't run.

I want that too. DOS-Box seem to have compatibility issues on PS3 which is a shame. It's very slow at the moment.
The CE version of Retroarch for PS3 is wonderful however. Amiga games works great etc. Best version so far.

Beta #4 is out: (Removed)
PKG contains only 2048 core. Other cores can be downloaded from Main Menu -> Online Updater -> Core Downloader
Missing core from Core Downloader is a work in progress.

For who install it on to a previous beta:
  • Install pkg
  • Start RetroArch PSX-Place CE
  • Load 2048 core (if it isn't already loaded)
  • Main Menu -> Configuration File -> Reset to Default
In this way .cfg files will be created from scratch.

Edit:
In attach i make a SND0.AT3 with Children (Dream Version) - Robert Miles, composed and played on the glorious SID chip of the Commodore 64, by Raik Picheta (Eco) [link prevented post so removed

I just wanted to say Thank You! Robert Miles was my first album back in the good ol' days. To hear it in your release was a surprise but I went on a mad quest to find the whole thing and here it is. Thank you! And yes I realize how old this thread is and you've probably moved on to other projects.

Hello @LUCIANO FERREIRA!
I'll show you a little step by step:
1_Load the core 'FinalBurn Neo Light - Neo Geo & CPS System only'
2_In the 'MAIN MENU' choose 'Subsystems'
3_Inside 'SUBSYSTEMS' click on 'Load Neogeo CD'
4_After this, choose the path where is you game in format 'BIN/CUE' is and choose the file '.cue'
5_This will led you to 'MAIN MENU' again
6_This time choose 'Load Content' and one more time the same path where is you game in format 'BIN/CUE' is and choose the file '.cue'
7_Now you are in menu 'SUGGESTED CORES', so choose the very same core 'FinalBurn Neo Light - Neo Geo & CPS System only'
8_MAYBE THIS WILL PRODUCT A MESSAGE OF ERROR 'FBNEO ERROR - ROMSET IS UNKNOWM' - THIS IS "NORMAL" ON PS3
9_Enter on 'QUICK MENU' (default L3 + R3) and press (defaut O/Circle) to back for 'MAIN MENU'
10_Here go on 'Subsystems' and click on 'Load Neogeo CD' and this time the place of your game will open automaticaly
11_For last time choose the file '.cue' and you will send to 'MAIN MENU'
12_For the very last time - I SWEAR - choose 'Subsystems' and now click on 'Start Neogeo CD *'

Hi, Bro, thanks for your help, I tried the way you instructed me above, but when I enter the last step the PS3 freezes on the screen that initializes the Neo Geo CD bios

Hi, Bro, thanks for your help, I tried the way you instructed me above, but when I enter the last step the PS3 freezes on the screen that initializes the Neo Geo CD bios

I can think of one more option. Place the following files all inside a folder named 'NEOCD': the game BIN/CUE, the bios neocd.zip,
neocdz.zip and neogeo.zip. I have them both zipped and separately inside this folder.
