RetroArch CE (Unofficial - Community Edition)

PS3 RetroArch CE (Unofficial - Community Edition) Beta 4

I vote for RetroArch CE.
@aldostools @Crystal

it is possible to update the Retroarch CE with latest updated core
AT LEAST for FinalBurn Neo since somes build a v.1.0.0.03 full non-merged roms set and the fact that i have searched for the v.1.0.0.01 full set and i have been without luck finding it....

I tried to udpate all my cores on my wife HEN (testing..the process went well & restarted the console and to my biggest deception the Final Burn Neo core was still v.1.0.0.01 :(

Why it do not updated ?

I tried FBNeo plus Retro Loader and i have to admit that im more familliar with RetroArch

its is something possible , like i said AT LEAST for the Final Burn Neo Core ?

Dont worry about Roms set. If you have complete Rom set v1.0.0.03 then you can use FBNeo v1.0.0.01 with 99.9999 % of roms that you have

That's okay. Hopefully if someone else knows they could post a link.

The official Retroarch homepage says this about it:

To use the new widescreen feature, go to Quick Menu -> Options.

Extra columns to draw in H40 for widescreen
This determines how many extra columns to draw for a widescreen aspect ratio. '0' means no extra columns will be drawn.
In the previous version, this was always set to 10. Now, you are able to tweak this setting. Some games will require a value lower or higher than 10 to display properly, and some games allow you to set it as high as possible.
Let us run down the list of some games and what the best possible configuration for them is:

Ecco The Dolphin 1/2: Set this to 22 (or lower depending on your preference). See screenshot here. (See default 4:3 image here).
Thunder Force IV: Set this to 22 (or lower depending on your preference).
Streets of Rage 1/Bare Knuckle 1: Set this to 18, minimal pop-in (see screenshot here). Set the value lower to eliminate it altogether at the expense of a reduced field of view (See default 4:3 image here).
World of Illusion: Set this to 18 (for minimal pop-in). Set the value lower to eliminate it altogether at the expense of a reduced field of view.
Thunder Force IV: Set this to 20.
Virtua Fighter 2: Set this to 18.

There's a patch needed for Sonic 1: https://heyjoeway.github.io/sonic-wide-autopatcher/

Beta #4 is out: link
PKG contains only 2048 core. Other cores can be downloaded from Main Menu -> Online Updater -> Core Downloader
Missing core from Core Downloader is a work in progress.

For who install it on to a previous beta:
  • Install pkg
  • Start RetroArch PSX-Place CE
  • Load 2048 core (if it isn't already loaded)
  • Main Menu -> Configuration File -> Reset to Default
In this way .cfg files will be created from scratch.

Edit:
In attach i make a SND0.AT3 with Children (Dream Version) - Robert Miles, composed and played on the glorious SID chip of the Commodore 64, by Raik Picheta (Eco) [Original Sid file]

Added 2 new cores: Mame2003_Midway and Dosbox (classic version).
I suppose that Mame2003 Midway is exactly Mame2003 but only for play Midway games. I have not verified the real differences.

@Crystal I have a few questions about the new beta 0.4.
1- Did you include only one core (2048) to force the users to download the other cores online? IMO you should include at least the most popular cores if not all the cores. This can be unfavorable for users with limited Internet access on the PS3.
2- During 2021 you released various updated cores (+59 cores) in beta 0.3. In beta 0.4 the update file index-extended.txt only lists 34 cores. Do you plan to allow download the missing cores?
3- What is the purpose of content_history.lpl and content_music_history.lpl? The previous beta didn't include them.
4- The folder Assets includes files larger than 1920x1080. Does it make sense to include files larger than PS3 capabilities?
5- Are info files newer? In info folder:
- mgba_libretro.info.zip can be deleted.
- genesis_plus_gx_wide_libretro.info is missing
- All vice info files have a display_version = "3.3". The info files in beta 0.3 had version "3.5"
- info files in 0.3 had the settings in commented sections, in 0.4 the description and comments were removed.
- In some info files (e.g. genesis_plus_gx_libretro), there are different supported file extensions
- In fbneo_libretro.info of 0.4, there are less firmwares listed than in beta 0.3.

I have said this for a very long time, but there needs to be a BASE pkg and also a FULL pkg.
Similar to the old multiMAN releases. Base is maybe a few core or the current B4 pkg and then you have a core add-on package.
Then also you could have update pkgs as well.

We are talking about a PKG that is getting bigger and bigger with time.

Personally i think that is the only route to go. You still have the online updater but you also have an offline option and for every little thing a whole pkg does not need to be uploaded.

I agree with aldostools because I dont have internet connection on my Ps3 but it would be nice If I can try with this new Retroarch beta release.

We could consider last beta as a pre release 1.0. We adjust last things [as your 2) 3) 4) 5) etc etc] and the next one will be the 1.0.
A this point we can make a base PKG with 4-5 cores and an update PKG just to install all the other cores. Base + Update = FULL PKG.
I used the infos files from a my working installation so they are "weird". I will get infos from retroarch repository for the next time.
The index-extended.txt will contain all core available for PS3, of course....give me time ^_^

Hi @Crystal and thanks for all the hard work on the PS3 scene. I would like to report that the gearsystem core (1.9.0 - Gearsystem (3.1.1)) returns to the PS3 XMB screen after trying to launch a game. I tried two games with '.sms' and '.gg' extensions. I downloaded the core today from your repository!

Radiant Silvergun - No way. FBNeo core dosesn't support SV-T system games and Mame2003 stops after an Out Of Memory (i suppose it try to allocate a large quantity of ram that PS3 hasn't)

Martial Masters starts correctly on FBNeo core [martmast.zip and pgm.zip (bios)]
