PS2 RGB SCART and the PS2

There is even one more cable used in japan, for some time the japanese TVs was made using a connector named D-terminal
Externally looks like the DVI used in PC, but is not exactly the same

Anyway... i think the safest way to get a good RGB cable is to buy a clone cable with scart where you can see the pins
Basically, you need 5 pins... and knowking that you only need to google for images of "SCART PINOUT"

It seems a VGA…

In that case you couldn't have the audio output (is doable only if you use a separate cable for the sound: optical with Ps2 and RCA with Ps1, only first models though).

Maybe with a scart adaptor like this...

But they are difficult to find, you'd need to made one by yourself ...and it is mostly for using a component cable with some crt tvs that support component signal from SCART entry (I never tried it with a 3 pins RGB cable).

You could easilly find adaptors like this: https://www.ebay.it/i/252274920740?chn=ps
but as I was saying you won't have the audio output.

Best thing, is to buy a cable with pins directly on the scart as the ones I linked before (as it was the official ps1 cable too).
Even because having all the pins, you can use it (in composite mode) even plugged to SCART 2 (or 3, 4...) that usually doesn't support RGB input.

adapters can also cause extra noise, better use a transcoder like this one: https://www.beharbros.com/garo

I know this thread is old, but for anyone who comes across it, I can shed some light on the original question of this thread. Yes, there was an official RGB cable for the PS2. I have all three PlayStation RGB cables made by Sony* (I originally thought the Japanese cable was the only one so I got that, then bought the PS2 cable and a few months later found the PS1 scart cable for cheap).

Their model numbers are:

PS1 JP21: SCPH-1050
PS1 Scart: SCPH-1052
PS2 Scart: SCPH-10142

Sony never made a PS2 JP21 cable. Also, unlike the composite, s-video, component and d-terminal cables, Sony never made a PS3 RGB cable, though it is compatible with the PS1/PS2 RGB cables.

The PS1 cables are grey, the PS2 cable is black. They are very thick, significantly thicker than the official PS2 component cable. Unlike many third-party cables, they do not have composite and stereo audio input/output ports on the cable itself, just a straight cable between both ends. On the connector for the PS1/PS2 there is the word SONY and the PS logo.

* The PS2 VGA cable (SCPH-10320) also usually outputs RGB, as does the AV-Multi cable that Sony made for their Japanese TVs, but to keep on-topic, there are only three cables for the purposes of this post.

just wanted to point 2 details that are very unknown by the most ppl.
PS1 Scart: SCPH-1052 for Europe
PS2 Scart: SCPH-10142 for Europe

Europe RGB cable for PS1, SCPH-1052, is black. It is not grey as is the japanesse RGB cable. And the way to identify without its original box is the pinout that is full set. In the ps2 model of RGB cable for Europe SCPH-10142, that is also a black colored cable, the pinout is not complete in the Scart, it is missing 6 pins.
