PS3 Risk of trashing a CECHA00 during cleaning

Hello! Recently I got a CECHA00 console, it haven't seen any maintenance during its ages. I thought it would be a good idea to clean it up and change the thermal grease (must be a thermal stone already :-) ) Everybody in repair centers that I asked to do this keeps telling me that the console will most likely die with RSOD after removing the cooling system. Is this true? I don't want to lose the full BC console ;-)
P.S. checked with WebMAN, the total uptime is less than 6 days. Can it be reset by the previous owner? (It was 4.82 ofw although...)
Thanks for answering in advance :-)

Sounds like hogwash to me. As long as you pay attention to what you're doing, don't yank any cables out, do a proper thermal paste swap with a good amount, put all the screws back in. Maybe bend back the clamps a bit before putting them back on so you get proper heat transfer. I'd say quite the opposite. Maintenance is key to maintaining any of these older consoles. Just make sure you keep webman mod on it (keep temps 65-68 max) so it doesn't revert to sony's shitty fan curve.
