PSP SCUMMVM port for PSPonPS4

FULL THROTTLE - PS4 exit error, PPSSPP - good
Day of the Tentacle - PS4 exit error, PPSSPP - good
The Lost Files of Sherlock Holmes: Case of the Rose Tattoo - PS4 Black screen
most of these games work on ps4 with old SCUMM

If any of these games have extra files in a folder, often called resource folder, it needs to either:
a) moved out to the game folder, or
b) declare the folder in the ini, eg: extrapath=disc0:/PSP_GAME/SYSDIR/game/RESOURCE

@Vika23 in general any scummvm-2.0.0+ seems highly unstable for the PSP emu. Maybe we should test with something like 1.9.0 or maybe 2.0.0 to see if there is any improvements

As i see new SCUMM broke many playble games for PS4! I try test as soon as i can, but if u have luck, try also test Blade Runner and Grim Fandango! Interesting to see if emu can handle with them!

without folders - on PS4 - errors. it started in ppsspp :(
Blade Runner - started in ppsspp.
Grim Fandango - not started in ppsspp.

I was test games about few months ago! I think these lists may be helpful!

Also version 2.8.1 is available! (PS3 and other platforms) but not tested yet!

In the dig game, the intro is skipped and goes straight to the game. in ppsspp - is fine

Torin's Passage - in the videos, the game is slow, and generally "boiled", as a result, after "conversations" it falls out into an error. in ppsspp - is fine

Full Pipe - black screen

Gabriel Knight 01. Sins of the Fathers - it behaves very strangely and is buggy, he writes that the files are corrupted. in ppsspp - is fine

Pajama Sam 01 - it starts, shows two screens and crashes into an error. in ppsspp - is fine

Jacobson - did you build 1.9.0 or 2.0.0??
build 2.5.1. - as it turned out, it is very buggy.

Well i had time to test build 2.5.1 and its was almost bad idea! Lol

Good news that i manage boot 2 games of Laura Bow Adventures on new Scumm
  • The Colonel's Bequest A Laura Bow Mystery
  • Laura Bow in The Dagger of Amon Ra
Performance really better then on v.1.2.0!

Also booted Space Quest V The Next Mutation! Good game! ...and thats it!

Other games like:
  • Drascula The Vampire Strikes Back
  • Lure of the Temptress
  • The Big Red Adventure
  • The Blackwell Legacy
  • Voyeur

I also tested some of them on build 1.2.0 and some of them "says" that i "miss some XXX.dat file"

I found dat. files for Drascula and Lure games, puted them in game folder and eurika - they boot on on build 1.2.0! I was sure that now same method will work on build 2.5.1.....but no....same "engine" error!

So i will agree that we need use more early builds like 1.9.0 or somehow manage to make work this engines of Scumm (dat. files) with build 2.5.1.....

Hope Someone figure out with that shit...

Vika23 - yes, as I wrote above, many games do not work because of an engine error, you put them in a folder and everything works! but in ppsssp :( and on ps4, it constantly loses something or an engine error, no matter what you do!

Hey Vika23, have you tried putting the plugin files into the same folder as the scummvm EBOOT.BIN (in the psp iso), some versions of scummvm require it to be next to the EBOOT where some require it to be in the games root folder so i would try that first and hopefully that will fix the issue, if it still doesn't then it could be a different root being set somewhere (possibly by jacobsson ini edits) so try throwing them into different folders on the UMD ISO and seeing where they work,
Also i wonder if maybe the PS4 is emulating a older version of the PSP because some actual PSP's have issues with scummvm when its not built in certain ways, some PSP's can only run the Plugin version of scummvm so it might be worth compiling a plugin version to keep memory usage down and "hopefully" improve performance, also some games may not even work because the psp toolchain is missing some libraries that some engines require, for example Broken Sword 2.5 doesn't build and will show as missing on detection because the toolchain is missing the Theora (i think i got that right but if anyone needs to correct the name feel free, im doing this from memory) requirements, we should probably look at which engines are actually built when it is configured.
Anyway these are just some thoughts on the matter, @Vika23 what is the actual compatability like on the Retroarch version of scummvm for ps4 ? i would assume it runs a lot better (i don't have a modded ps4 so i cant check) and could be better for running some of these games.
 
Devildwarf - two or three games (which I've checked) require plugins to be in the games folder (Toonstruck, The Legend of Kyrandia), therefore, it is tried both ways, first it runs on ppsspp, and then only on ps4, and very often, on version 2.5.1, it works fine on ppsspp, but on ps4 it falls out into an error or writes that the engine has not been found. there are a lot of actions to do in retroarch to play. :(

Devildwarf - Retroarch version of scummvm 2.1.1 for ps4 - all games with which there were problems are launched on retroarch without problems. it is only necessary to put DAT files in the folders of some games.

Thanks for checking (also sorry for my late reply, been busy recently), at least we know its possible to play a lot of the games that way then, still would be nice if we could get the psp port working better though, i sometimes really wish i had a modded ps4 (but i won't mod my only ps4, i would only mod a 2nd one like i did with my ps3's)

I totally understand. I sold my one PS4 to help pay for a gaming laptop. I have no hacked consoles plugged in ATM, but I still own all the normal portables hacked. I'm still playing around with the PSP, in this case with sonic mania.
