I got 2 slims (one jb already and the other a non jb 3.47) and I was wondering if i should jb the non jb to 3.55 or update the non jb to 4.xx and then jb it from to 4.xx? Also is there a difference between cfw 3.55 and cfw 4.xx?
 
From what i know, any ps3 that is below 3.55ofw you can install cfw over it, just like a regular update. Just like that, so easy. No need to go 3.55 first. That is when the exploit was last working. Any fw up to that, contains the exploit.

4.xx CFWs include the newer cobra payloads, no need to spoof to play newer games that require higher firmwares and iirc there's something that has to do with psp games etc.
 
The one in 3.55 cfw is going to be a bit pointless, and you will need to do the things different in it than in the other PS3
But it depends what you want to do with them, also the model
If are the same model what you could do is to keep the one with the oldest ofw as a replacement (in other words, dont use it)
 
Main advantage is integrated Cobra payload which i.e allow You run games from disc images instead of copied folders (increasing compatibility to 100% or very near that). No needs of disc in drive for some titles etc.

CFW 3.55 is today useless junk. ;]

And You don't need installing any OFW, especially the one above 3.55... Just install CFW i.e Rebug 4.86.1 Lite.

There is no 3.47, If you mean 3.74 then you will need to update to 4.8x to exploit the console.

He was saying 3.47 OFW I believe, being that 2.76 OFW was the lowest official firmware ever released... (Downgrade-able to 2.70)

But about there being a jailbreak firmware for 3.47, I don't think so... It was 3.41 and 3.55, I think, may be others.

Also, if I remember right, the window of opportunity to freely install CFW over OFW without fancy tricks was between 3.21 and 3.55

and yeah, CFW for 3.41 or 3.55 could not be installed over OFW @ 3.47. So the OFW would need to be updated to 3.55 and unlocked with GeoHot or downgraded to 3.41 and jailbroken with an even older CFW "if that's even possible". Best bet is to go 3.55 on GeoHot first and then maybe update to a more recent CFW like 4.84.2 or 4.86.1 if you don't care for DEX.

I do not have any personal experience with GeoHot CFW though... I have only watched alot of videos on it in the past and the major differences from what I see is that GeoHot 3.55 has not been able to go online for a very long time and never will but GeoHot is the last CFW that you can use to de-hash the unseen sectors of your PS3, I believe.

Even if we are not sure that those missing firmwares exist they probably do but were ostricized to SONY developers only. There are lots of prototype units circulating around; Fat, Slim or Super that we haven't much of an idea about what FW they run because it's never specified much by the people who have these units.

Though you are probably right in saying that the OP meant 3.74 (he won't get it done from FW that high) or 3.41 instead of 3.47.
 
The missing numbers do not exist, maybe a very odd one. There is a pattern to sonys FW numbers, mostly.

Similar to the way any devs version increases are based on the amount of work, how big the changes are etc.

This is why you will see big jumps to 3.00 when they add lots of new stuff, then small increase like 3.01, probably a bug fix or something else small added. Then they jump up 0.10 to 3.10 when they added something slightly bigger. Fairly normal practice as they know they will not need 100 versions in between each major update.
 
My non modded is at 3.47ofw and all that's needed is a update to 3.55ofw then I can do a 3.55cfw afterwards but after consideration from all members, I will update the unmodded to a 4.xxcfw. thanks for yalls help

If you really have 3.47 OFW... Then it's literally the first case of anyone having it on their system...
Are you 100% sure it's 3.47?

I'm no dev or ps3 historian, but that firmware might be valuable to someone....

I'll post it when I get it out the attic one day, its either 3.47 or 3.41ofw I really can't remember. A old buddy gave it to me because he wanted me to jb it but I never got around to it. I will one day, just been busy with work, homeschooling my kid and this whole covid stuff but I assure you guys that I will
 
Well, it happened before, when the factories updates his production lines for a new PS3 model sony could "send" them a special bluray containing a pup from a firmware version that never was available in his online servers
There is a video in youtube of a PS3 factory in brazil where it can be seen a PS3 in his last steps of the manufacturing where is inserted a "magical" white disc in the bluray drive :D
Anyway, the firmware is written to the PS3 at several different steps, maybe there is not a standard PUP for it

The firmware itself could be interesting, but probably we are not going to be able to find ever the original PUP (unless some of that discs are found by a collector)

The really interesting thing of the PS3 units that was not updated ever are the "ros" contents of the flash chip
Think in it... the flash allows to store firmware files for 2 different firmware versions (actual, and previous)... but if the PS3 was not updated ever, what is stored in the previous "ros" ?. Thats a mistery :rolleyes:
