PS3 Simplest way to access PS3 hard drive

Hello, I'm hoping someone can advise the the simplest way to access my PS3 hard drive.

It is currently unmodded but has over 400 Singstar songs. I don't actually want to use the DLC on another console or even use the PS3 for modding purposes but I do want to gain access to the melody_1.xml files that the songs use. This is because I want to convert the songs to be usable in Ultrastar on the PC.

Using the information that the lads in the Hacking the Singstar DLC thread have researched and the tool by @Edness I've been able to access the melody_1.xml files from the Singstar discs and then repurpose the note details to be usable in Ultrastar. I've got a few songs working fine.

At this point I want to now be able to access my DLC as Singstar has many songs that haven't been created for Ultrastar.

So in this case, how can I mod the PS3 in the simplest form, access the singstar songs to get the melody xml files and then unmod the PS3 completely without losing any user or data information. This part is key as my PS3 has user details, singstar and rock band songs that I never wish to lose.

You can install PS3HEN (must install HFW first), then install rebug toolbox to access ftp. Use ftp to copy all files, then uninstall rebug toolbox (use triangle and delete) and PS3HEN (use HFW Tools->Maintenance->Uninstall PS3HEN).

Sorry to double confirm the process but my ps3 is 4.92 so do I use the firmware from here: https://www.psx-place.com/threads/hfw-4-92-1-hybrid-firmware-official-release.46954/

Then possibly this HEN install from the HEN instructions

• Using Official HEN Installer
  1. Open PS3 browser and goto http://www.ps3xploit.me.
  2. Select "PS3HEN" and then select "HEN Installer/Enabler".
  3. After loading, select "Initialize HEN Installer".
  4. When it is finished, select "Install HEN".
  5. After two downloads are completed, the pkg installation will begin.
  6. Reboot after installation finishes. Use the "Enable HEN" icon to start HEN.

and then finally install rebug toolbox via the pkg file that you kindly provided above?

Once everything has been done and I've followed your uninstall instructions for the tool and HEN that you've advised, when I want to go back to OFW is it the same process, put it on USB and update via storage device?

Yes, but the hen install is even easier than that if you just use the auto install link from PS3HEN submenu.

Just need step 1 and step 2 is auto install.

4,5,6 still the same but not really steps.

I nervously tried the procedure this morning and after a few failures during the HEN install I've managed to gain access to the singstar songs. Even nicer, all the melody.xml files are in the songcache folder so I don't actually need to be transferring massive files over the network.

I'm going to get everything I need and then follow the uninstall method you advised and get back to official firmwire.
