PS3 sMAN 1.08n (by deank) - Adds new XMB Intergration Option, Improved ICON/SFO Scanning & more...

One of many legends in the PS3 Homebrew Community developer deank is back with a new progression of the sMAN plugin. We all know deank from projects like multiMAN, webMAN and now the sMAN plugin that has appeared to perhaps replaced (?) the original webMAN (aka webMAN Vanilla) project as now a new feature will allow you to choose between old style of "My Games" with the "XML" Mod, this option is off by default. As seen in the included pic in the release notes, the "XMB Intergration" can be toggled on/off easily in sMAN setup. The dev did not stop there with improving this PS3 Plugin in v1.08n additional details such as improved speed on scanning from external / internal hdd when extracting Game Icons / obtaining info from the PARAM.SFO can be seen with all details of this update

sman_xmb1.jpg

  • sMAN 1.08n is available:

    sMAN version 1.08n Changes:
    • Added [x] XMB Integration option in setup for people who like the older xmb/xml style (off by default)
    • Improved scan speed from ntfs/internal hdd when extracting icons/sfo
    • sMAN resources in /dev_hdd0/tmp/wmtmp/res will not be overwritten if exist (at least until the next version)
    • Supports up to 2000 titles (even in XMB Integration mode)
    • Still uses the same amount of memory (~2300KB free while idle)

    Dean

    • Developer: @deank
    • Type of Release: A PS3 Plugin for use with Custom Firmware : Such as a COBRA CFW or other CFW types such as (STANDARD) with the ability to boot plugins via external applications ..
    • Short Description: the sMAN plugin takes deank original webMAN plugin and adds the new slaunch feature also developed by deank and merges them into a single plugin that also gives the ability with all the original webMAN features developed by deank.

  • History of Changes

    sMAN v1.07
    • It can be either 10 or 40 games per page. Both layouts can be switched with [R3].
    sMAN 1.06n
    • Some important parts of the plugin are rewritten and optimized to reduce stack usage
    • Returned another 112KB back to fg vsh :) (2316KB free - was 1920KB a month ago without ntfs :) so about 396KB less used)
    • Changed sman.bin to support longer game names/paths/icons - a rescan will be initiated
    • Cleaned some code (about 1000 lines gone after the optimization)
    • Loading games speed improved (at least the perceived speed)
    • sMAN will show the name of the loaded game as popup message (not the filename)
    • sMAN is now properly unloaded when requested (no zombie or dead threads should remain)
    • It supports up to 2000 titles (games/bd/dvd) now

    sMAN v1.05
    • Use [L2+R2] to start sMAN
    • The sprx is bigger (but actually uses less memory) because it contains some glued resources
    • It will use standard PS1/PS2/PSP/PS3/Blu-ray/DVD icons when there is no proper cover/image available
    • This version of the plugin must be named sman.sprx and loaded from (in this exact order):
      • /dev_hdd0/sman.sprx or
        /dev_hdd0/plugins/sman.sprx or
        /dev_flash/vsh/module/sman.sprx otherwise it won't work.

    sMAN v1.02

    • Changed netiso/rawseciso implementation (external) - use plugin slot #0
    • Fixed crash when trying to load another PS1 title after one is played

    sMAN v1.01
    • Added "Setup" option in side-menu
    • Removed xml generation - no need for custom category_game.xml anymore
    • Removed xai_plugin/idle_plugin usage
    • Added x2 upscale for small images/covers (w/h < 336)
    • Added indication of current group mode (PS3 1 / xxx) under title name/path
    • Removed "My Games" entry from XMB - hold [START] to launch sMAN

unfortunatly this fabulous plugin is not compatible with some command or is not integrated like webman mod. EX: XMBPD_v0.65 this apps use install.ps3 browser command. I think i will be more easy to add , implement sMan in webMan. 2 team joined to make it !? New name websMan ??
I don't think it's the right way to do it.
The annoying dependency between XMBPD & wMM should be made obsolete as soon as possible imo.
Changing the dependency to sman or another hybrid plugin does not make sense either.
Pkg handling (as well as many other functions offered in wMM) should be moved to a system plugin (probably xai_plugin) so that they are accessible from any brew, including XMBPD.

For info, I have started moving pkg handling functions to xai_plugin a few days ago but have not finished yet... I will post about it sometime soon...

Doubt it. Dean seems to hate adding options. That's what webmanmod is for whenever it becomes semi stable again.
Hard to judge online text, but he seemed rather touchy when I mentioned making dev_blind a separate option to ftp_enable. lol

deank has decided to keep sMan as simple as possible, he made this very clear several times but people keep asking him to add more options...

The sman source code is available for anyone who wants to add more features to it... Feel free to contribute guys...

As to wMM, it's unclear at this stage what kind of a future it has in its current form despite Aldo's current efforts to make the latest builds stable. It may actually be wiser to start a new sman fork & add some of the wMM features to it...

I'm surprised you aren't ditching the web interface altogether personally.
PS3 seems to hate javascript and usually results in a frozen system or a long wait for it to (maybe) recover.

I normally have javascript disabled to make the ps3 browser semi-stable.
Only re-enabling it when I need to rescan games or something that requires it.

Would be great to ditch that dependancy completely.

Edit: Never have any problems refreshing games remotely, but If I try from the PS3 browser it will lock up from time to time leaving the power led green with a red flash. (guessing that's just your way of letting people know it is or at least was thinking).

Shame they didn't make the ps3 browser a seperate app with proper memory access so it wasn't so useless.
Not like you can use it in game or anything anyway... :/

Problem with the fan in sman. Auto doesn't work, it does the exact same thing as manual. Also since installing sman, my controller randomly doesn't sync when I turn the PS3 on until I plug it in with the usb. Never had the problem before I installed sman. Using Rebug 4.81.2 with cobra.

Actually I've had my controller not sync a couple of times lately... I was kinda putting it towards the fact that it's 7 years old or however long it's been since I bought my fat ps3.

I'll double check fan controller later. I've been pretty well playing on PSN non stop the last few days so I wouldn't of noticed if it had broken recently.

Edit: Yeah, dynamic fan controller seems to be working for me. - Rebug 4.81.2 (CEX) / Cobra 7.52 / PSNpatch 2017.02/B05 / sman.sprx from yesterday sometime.

The fan works just fine - I'm monitoring it all the time. About the controller sync - I haven't had this issue. I'll check both later when I get back from work.

My controllers only not synced maybe twice in a couple of dozen boots. (My attention span is only like 15 minutes before I have to do something else)

Think it's more likely to do it if you power on from console itself, then turn controller on while it's still booting and will just keep flashing 4 lights until you plug the usb cord in. (Doesn't seem to give up either, just keeps flashing for ages)

Too random to pin point on anything. I figured my controller is just on its way out... but who knows.

Running the ps3 caseless at the moment so signal should be no drama.

Dynamic fan control does work but the problem for me is if I put the auto fan to like 60c, instead of it reaching 60c and then the fan increasing it instead makes 60 the actual speed of the fan the same way manual does. Like if I put 95c into auto, the fan speed is going to increase to 95% but thats what manual is for, not auto. And btw is there anyway I can use my iso filenames as the title of the games rather than the default ones? And what are the cover sizes supposed to be? I added new covers into the multiman cover folder, since some were missing but in sman, the new covers I put in are smaller than the other ones. I made them 260 by 300.

mM covers are 260x300 and they show properly. The filenames for the games in .iso format could be whatever you like, as long as you try to avoid special characters like (tm)(c)(r), etc.

Nope. I still cannot reproduce the fan issue.
The fan remains at whatever minimum speed I set up in sman until CPU reaches max temp. Then fan increases until a balance is reached to keep CPU at max temp.
I don't have any problems at all.

Which covers are you talking about? The ones displayed in sman GUI or the ones on XMB using xmb integration?
Did you make those cover files yourself?

Hey sorry guys, I figured out my fan issue, its not sman, it was my own fault. It works fine now. And yes the covers I made myself. I have the multiman cover pack installed. I was missing a few covers that the pack didnt have. So I downloaded the ones I needed myself, edited their size to 260x300, renamed them properly and then added them into the multiman cover folder. But they appear messed up, some of them really small, and one of them was really big that it froze sman. The ones that came with the pack, show up fine. And yes its in the GUI. They appear fine in webman mod though. Also about the titles, for example the Japanese iso games are showing the name in Japanese rather than the name im using for the iso. Would deleting the .sfo files from the temp folder help? And im not really using any special characters. Thanks again for the help guys, I appreciate it.

Btw the covers I added show up fine in the xmb integration but really small or really big in the GUI and the big ones make it freeze. Also im still randomly getting that sync issue, not 100% sure its cause of sman though. It wasnt doing that before I started using it. Im also using a Sen enabler plugin, maybe it could be that. Or my controller just decided to be messed up.

I've found Covers can be touchy depending on what program made them.
picresize.com done a brilliant job at resizing / converting mine when the program I was using wasn't working right.

Try keep them fairly small in file size. (~30kb at 260x300 looks and works well)
Some came out at over 100kb originally and caused issues.

As for file names Sman doesn't currently have that option. In webmanmod you can untick param.sfo to display ps3 games based on file name rather than its internal name.

Maybe try hit the old reset button on the back of the controller. Failing that maybe rebuild database/file system in recovery.? Tiny bit of corruption can do some weird things!

Why slash is doubled?
and, There was no file in mounted directory(net0) in Files menu even though file exists

As this plugin is growing lightning fast (a lot of changes and issues in short periods of time), there are several scattered threads related and it's hard for users to follow. I think it would be nice (in every thread about sMAN) to have along with the changelog, plugin description and downloads a mini-howto explaining the requirements, how to install and some basic operations, for example NTFS support (we should not assume all users are experienced). I know sMAN is not in a stable stage but threads would be less cluttered and easier to follow the development if we do this.

Are you sure the problem does not come from ps3netsrv? Are you able to list your ps3netsrv games with multiman?
