PS3 [ sMAN v1.06n & v1.07 ] - Lots of Improvements & Some new features from deank for this PS3 Plugin

sMAN is progressing into a "Super Hero" type of plugin as fellow PS3 developer Joonie dubs these latest updates the "SuperMAN" plugin due to the evolution and responsiveness as developer deank continues to polish the plugin that combines the original webMAN project with the newly developed sLaunch feature (a new UI for launching games from the XMB) into this single project dubbed sMAN, while not officially standing for "SuperMAN", we have to agree with Rebug developer @Joonie that @deank is creating yet another masterpiece before our eyes as this new UI continues to mature and evolve. Since the last checkup up on this plugin, it was residing at version 1.05 since then deank has made several new updates, making v1.07 the latest release (as of writing this article) for this new ps3 plugin experience .

These updates includes new rewrites of the plugin for a improved and optimized user experience, in comparision to some of the early version & original POC's prior to the formation of sMAN, plus a new layout of game with 10 games or 40 game display options as seen in the included screenshot, to toggle these layouts simply press down on the R3 stick on your Controller.

Latest Updates

  • sMAN 1.06n ( http://deanbg.com/sman.sprx | http://deanbg.com/sman_1.06.zip )
    • Some important parts of the plugin are rewritten and optimized to reduce stack usage
    • Returned another 112KB back to fg vsh :) (2316KB free - was 1920KB a month ago without ntfs :) so about 396KB less used)
    • Changed sman.bin to support longer game names/paths/icons - a rescan will be initiated
    • Cleaned some code (about 1000 lines gone after the optimization)
    • Loading games speed improved (at least the perceived speed)
    • sMAN will show the name of the loaded game as popup message (not the filename)
    • sMAN is now properly unloaded when requested (no zombie or dead threads should remain)
    • It supports up to 2000 titles (games/bd/dvd) now

Thinks look really stable at the moment.

  • sMAN v1.07
    • It can be either 10 or 40 games per page. Both layouts can be switched with [R3].

If you don't have a decent picture editing program like GIMP or something, try feed em through somewhere like picresize.com (That's how I did all my game covers), just type in what resolution and a maximum file size you want and see how well they turn out.

Obviously some images compress better than others, so you mileage may vary quality wise. Bit of Trial and Error may be required. :)
Thanks alt got a feiw great backgrounds like this one it had free license from babaimage.

it would be nice if you could share your backgrounds as i couldn't find good ones in that teeny size :)

Actually now that sMAN doesn't extract the resources if they exist, the file can be of any size (the bigger the slower it will load in the GUI of course). Only when gluing the resources to the sprx after compiling sman the file must not be very large.

Dean, why do you bother whit those GUI and covers for sMAN ? Whats wrong with webMAN XMB integrated menu ? I dont think we need "mmOS" just for "choose and push X" game loading application... PLEASE make sMAN like good old webMAN and for those who want gui with covers make separated sprx plugin...

sMAN is ways better than webMAN (vanilla) already. It uses less memory, works faster, doesn't suffer the memory limitations for the number of supported games, works with all usb drives/hubs, doesn't need usb/boot delay settings, has less options and if you don't use the GUI, but the XMB integration it is just a beefed up webMAN.

The GUI/sLaunch was just a POC for people who want to create something different than the small vsh-menu gui. It just showed that there are enough resources to control the whole screen at 1080p / FullHD from a small plugin.

@deank can u also group games with title names starting like "A" "B" "C" ...so that we can jump to required game title in group instead of going through whole list from A to -X,Y,Z..thanks ...

Looking good mate. Had a lazy Saturday playing Black Ops 2 and doing a whole lot of nothing and everything's been absolutely flawless.

No more issues with dynamic fan controller, No random graphical glitches in mmOS like when running webmanmod at the same time. Everything just works beautifully.

Although I generally use the xmb interface, sman makes a great shortcut back to whatever game I'm playing the most of. (currently black ops 2).

Hit the sman combo, press x, hit the psnpatch combo, start killing.
Couldn't be any easier. :)

Seems really good at picking up the combos too. I don't have to hold it for ages or press it a few times to get both psnpatch to run and webman to unload at the same time. Click em once and the magic just happens.

Just thought I'd say thanks. Couldn't be happier with the PS3 at the moment.
If only it could run gamecube games it would be almost perfect. hahaha

Dynamic fan control mode is out of the question after unloading sman however there is still the manual fan mode option...
In practice there is no risk of ban when using manual fan mode to go online, wMM has been doing that for a long time...

But I think deank has already considered these fan options & chose syscon...

Edit: you can actually choose between syscon & manual.. So problem solved... Like I said, deank already considered all this.... Lol

Each time I try to enter sMAN setup to toggle XMB integration it takes me to webMAN 1.47.01. MOD setup. What am I doing wrong or what should I have in my boot_plugins.txt file?
