PS3 sMAN v1.10n (by deank): New features & improved performance & stability

A couple of new updates aiding in the evolution of the sMAN plugin has been seen in recent days as developer @deank continues to add functionality and as you see in the screenshot additional eye-candy as well. Following up on v0.08n, deank officially labled v1.09 as a Beta Release as several new things were implemented and went through some testing phases. Deank has stated he has almost re-written sMAN so much that it now almost differs from webMAN v1.47n by nearly 50% according to the guy who know (the developer of both plugin) deank. Also thanks to freddy38510 NTFS drives will show the actual time & date stamps in both FTP & the file explore in web-browsers. v0.10n was recently released as well and officially moved from Beta to the next Stable update , that did just that improve the stability & performance of things like the www client . This plugin keeps improving and new features continue to impress as deank's continues to put his magically touches on this ps3 plugin.

  • sMAN v0.10n
In the latest sman.sprx update the internal web server will use threads to serve files/images content. It will no longer hold the whole www client thread and will release the resources immediatelly greatly improving performance and stability. Until now if you download something big via the web interface and then try to browse games or refresh sman would lock, but not anymore..

There were some issues with displaying images/files from network locations (ps3netsrv) using the webbrowser but it is now ok. There are also some other minor fixes.

    Update to sMAN 1.10n: http://deanbg.com/sman.sprx | http://deanbg.com/sMAN_1.10.zip

Network/ps3netsrv locations should now support about 3200 files (1600 ISO games + 1600 images for example).

p.s. sprx is updated again. If someone with a lot of network games can test it - let me know. I tested it with a folder with 9000 files and it handles 3200 to 3300, so it works. :)

    http://www.psx-place.com/threads/sm...on-sfo-scanning-more.12984/page-10#post-75905

  • I updated sman.sprx - it now has a separate option for dev_blind. sman_res.exe is changed to support .htm resource files. The source is also updated. Web content is now in external .htm files in wmtmp/res folder. It is still work in progress, but at least you can see how it is progressing.

The web-pages are still ugly, but now someone can help with improving them. The external files are:
    • www_head.htm - this is present in each generated page and can be edited by a web-designer
    • www_setup.htm - the setup page (only the form)
    • www_foot.htm - the footer
    • www_file.htm - some javascript needed for table sorting (doesn't work on the ps3 browser)

The dynamic content is generated after www_head and before www_foot.

I made some changes to the layout... should be something like this at the moment:

It should look much better now. You have a very early build. It now doesn't use tables, but I rewrote everything with css. Not really gorgeous, but still simple and lite. Shows 99% the same on the PC and on the PS3 now. Also it fits perfectly even in SD resolution (720x576). :)

Without Javascript the Setup page cannot be used (because js is used to set current options/values), but all other functions are ok.

This option was never clickable. The checkbox was always disabled and its "ticked" state just indicates whether the lowest speed will be applied (which happens only in "auto" mode). I added back the "tick" when in auto-mode - it is purely cosmetic checkbox just to make the options look more ordered on screen. :)

I updated sman.sprx. Also game listing in the web-browser on the PS3 now looks properly (game names are centered as they should be - same as on the PC).

http://deanbg.com/sman.sprx (now up to 1.09n - resource files will be updated and you'll also get a new background for sMAN GUI).
    sMAN updated (http://deanbg.com/sman.sprx)

I hope this 1.09n version is the last "beta"/"unstable" before the official 1.10. It seems very stable at the moment. I optimized a lot of functions and rewrote a lot of the code - probably over 50% is now completely different compared to webMAN 1.47n.

In this update the optimizations lead to another memory usage decrease - you should now have 2324KB free memory.

FTP browsing is faster - both for hdd/usb and ntfs drives, which means copying a lot of folders will be much faster compared to any wM/sM version.

Along with all the other changes since 1.08 (external web content/additional xmb info tags/code optimizations) 1.09n should be the version to update to without worries.

Thanks to @freddy38510 the ntfs library now supports proper date/time stamps for files/folders. sMAN is updated to show actual date/times in FTP and web-browser for NTFS drives.

well , i was able to duplicate the problem, keep in mind prior to this sMAN was working fine with no problems:

so I turned off the xmb intergration in sMAN and rebooted,
then disabled sMAN in the boot txt so it wouldn't boot up and rebooted again

went into multiman, copied a game to the internal hdd. then I removed the usb hdd and loaded the game from the internal hdd in mM (the game has NO radio buttons ticked on)

at the xmb there was a game disc icon...which I don't think should be there unless you actually put a disc in ....right ?? so at this point I knew there would be a problem.

I then launched artemis but decided not to use it so I just did a "quit game" on it.
I then put a game disc in the ps3 because I figured that in mM that icon shouldn't be there unless a disc is in, and launched the game, game played fine no issues.

backed out to the xmb, I press triangle and remove disc to see if it would eject the disc i put in but it didn't. so i went into mM and highlighted the game disc in the mM xmb and selected eject and it did so.

then in mM i chose to restart system. then went into the rebug toolbox so I can ftp the boot txt back, this time to turn on sMAN....did full reboot right from the toolbox ....and bam...sMAN fatal error and no matter what it will not go away again unless you delete wmtmp, and xmlhost but it will always come back from now on unless I do a full wiped of the hdd on my pc and put it back in the ps3 to reformat

im on rebug 4.81.02 / 7.52 cex ... sman was 1.09n , md5 is correct, bytes are correct
and I have nothing else running except cobra. no vsh menu, nothing in the plugins folder or any other plugin of any kind and of course wM has been off this whole time. also this system does not have any of the latest wMM installed either....just the one that came with rebug.

so tomorrow I will use another hdd to duplicate the issue now that I know how to do it , record everything then I might try out the socat stuff

Back on the cover thing, I lent my NTFS hard drive to someone at the moment after recovering some data of a busted encrypted enclosure for them and tried throwing a game on an NTFS formatted thumb drive. (through a hub if that matters)

The game itself showed fine, but even after a couple of "refreshes" the cover wasn't copied over. Just the icon0.png

Just one iso and one jpg file in the PS3ISO folder. Double checked file names to be sure, but no go. Was working fine ~1.09n on my other hard drive that I normally keep solely in the right hand USB port.

Edit: Just copied both files (iso and jpg) onto internal hard drive and cover shows fine for internal version, but not the NTFS copy.

thanks master deank

there is a good news and there is a bad one.
the good news is that my ps3 stope freezing, and the bad news is the ps3netsrv crash and give me this msg in the cmd:
....
Connection from 192.168.15.49
System seems low in resources.
D:\ps3netsrv>

and my pc memory get filled up hahahah lol.
EDIT1: the games that sman load with cover are 620 game befor ps3netsrv crash.

I made few changes to sman:
1) It will reuse the network connection and not close/open new for each scanned iso
2) It will issue /closefile to free ps3netsrv resources on the PC

It scans a bit faster now and my ps3netsrv uses only 750KB of memory during the whole scan of 130 games. Give it a try and let me know if it goes further than 1003 games. It takes ~1 second per game, so 1000 games will need at least 17 minutes.

so once I set it all up basically i have to run sman and get the fatal error maybe do it once or twice...then after that I can just change the name of the one i named "release" back to its original name and just delete the "debug" one?

seems easy enough... once i change everything back...where will all the info be located? sorry never used socat before

sudo apt-get install socat <-------- just ignore that im putting it here so i don't forget it lol I have pages filled with all kinds of stuff for my Rpi3 but need to find it

There is socat.exe for windows (which I use). There is no need for linux for this basic task. Also you'll need a sman version with some debug print enabled.

And about your issues:

1) Do not disable sman in boot_plugins.txt with "#" - just delete boot_plugins.txt if you really want to test
2) It is normal to see a disc icon in XMB after you mount a game with mM
3) You're doing crazy stuff like putting real PS3 discs, ejecting and whatnot.
4) I can't figure if you're using multiMAN or mmCM, because the former IS NOT for cobra cfw
5) After you delete wmtmp folder and restart, check if sman extracted the resource files in wmtmp/res folder before giving the fatal error.

There are no changes to cover handling for ntfs. It looks first in wmtmp for jpg/JPG/png/PNG and then on the ntfs drive. If the first time you scanned the drive you didn't have cover, it used icon0.png and that's why you have it now and not the jpg cover. You can remove the .png from wmtmp and try to refresh.

Ahh I see what's going on. It's because I have a copy on the ntfs drive and a copy on the internal drive. It's scanning the copy on the internal drive first and copying the png, then using that instead of copying the jpeg from the ntfs drive for that copy as it must read the jpg cover from the internal drive directly rather than copy it into wmtmp.

Renaming either iso to something slightly different or copying the jpg into wmtmp directly works to get both covers showing.

hey, I've got a little problem I'm hoping someone can help, on sman 1.05 i could unmount and remount games during gameplay and this made multidisc psx games easy to change as id have the game screen on my computter, ive now upgraded to 1.10 and now when i try the same method it just crashes my ps3 and i have to hard reset. im just wondering if there is a solution as multidisc was working perfect before. many thanks.

Are your games on ntfs/net or internal hdd? There are no changes in mounting psx games since 1.05 if I remember correctly. And how do you switch games? Do you click eject and then mount the new game or you click the new game directly?

The psx games are loaded internally. But with multi disc games when the option to change disc came up I could used to unmount and it would say the lid is open then mount the next disc/iso from my computer/phone/tablet and it would continue perfect. Now when I try that it just freezes my system. Thanks for the reply.

When you try what? Does it freeze when you unmount or when you mount the game? Sadly I have no multidisc games to test it.

It crashes when I mount the next iso. It used to work flawless. Any chance you can send me version 1.03 or 1.04 just to see if that's works. Thanks

sorry deank the new sman give me the same resulte with few changes:
1- the ps3netsrv dosen't give me the "System seems low in resources." msg.
2- now it randomly scan my all games (see below what i mean of all games), some time sman scan onley 17 games some time 121 games and some time no games at all.
3- in the previse release it show me this msg " Connection from 192.168.15.49 " every time it scan a new game but now it show me the msg only once.

and what still the same is my ram is geting full if the sman start to scan.

what i mean when i say my all games, is if i start refresh, my ps3 clock hands start spining
until my pc memory get full and my pc start to freeze a little (i think) sman lose the conect with the ps3netsrv and then the hands of the clock stop spininng, then i enter the sman gui and i see it scan a few games like i mention in edit 1 and 2 in my last post here, then sman start adding the rest of the games even if the ps3netsrv is stoped but with no cover, so i wait to see when will sman will stop, and it didn't stop until it add all of my games to the list.
so what i mean is if the ps3netsrv is conecting with sman, the sman add game with a cover, if the sman lose the conction it start adding the game with no cover and sman add them very slow like 2-4 sec for one game not like if sman is conecting with ps3netsrv it add the game very fast like 1 sec for a game like you said.

and what you say about " ps3netsrv uses only 750KB of memory during the whole scan " me two if check it in the processes tab in the task manager but if check the performance tab the memory start to grow after i start the scan until my memory get full.

finally i think the previos release (maybe) is better than this one, this is my opinon, bc i can preduce the same problem every time.

i hope i explain my problem vrey clear and thanks

EDIT: in the new sman if the my pc memory get full, even if i close the ps3netsrv and i turn off my ps3 the memory still full and didn't get less until i restart my pc or i have to use free mem program but the previos sman if i turn off the ps3 and close the ps3netsrv my memory get normal again.

The things you describe sound like network and PC issues. Check what process eats your memory. It is normal to see only one "Connection from..." message, because it is established only in the beginning of the scan. I'll later send you the ps3netsrv_debug.exe version that I'm using - hopefully you will see what is going on. No, the previous version is not better.

Yesterday (and today) I did test the scanning with 130 games and it never failed and the PC memory never increased, so my guess is the PC side.

Adding the games without covers/names (for 3000 games) will take just 1 second, but the idea of all this is to extract icon0.png/param.sfo.

me two think it's a pc side but i run the resource moniter and everything is ok.
so i don't know why when i run the scan the memory start to grow untill it full.

edit: the msg "Connection from..." run once for the new samn or it must run once even with the old samn release? bc this is the first time (i think) it happing for me.

edit2: do you know any program that give me a better moniter result for my pc?

Here is ps3netsrv_debug.exe that I use all the time:

http://deanbg.com/ps3netsrv_debug.zip

Also updated sman.sprx: http://deanbg.com/sman.sprx

I added some more stuff and tested network ISOs - I don't have any problems now (and neither did I yesterday). If your ps3netsrv crashes you can stop it (ctrl-c) and start it again during scan.

To your question: the old version connected with each game, but the latest connects only once.

ok thanks i will try and edit my post with the results

1- i delete the tmp and xmlhost from my ps3 dev_hhd0, then restart my ps3 and add my ip and save, then restart my ps3.
2- hold the R2+L2 the sman say there is no conent and then start scan my games, the ps3netsrv give me these msg after it want to read my first game:

I tested it and it doesn't crash. Make sure that you really downloaded the sprx again and replaced it in your PS3.
