Some questions about Linux/OtherOS on PS3

hi guys, I was thinking about getting a nvidia shield TV to end the headaches of media watching but then I remembered I have a ps3 which has movian . It's nice and all but can't run h265.

Since my CFW is rebug 4.82 I'm thinking perhaps I can reactivate the removed OtherOS feature, install some sort of linux and install VLC player and enjoy it.

Is such a screnario possible nowadays?

How much HDD space does linux installation take? which brand of linux is recommended for ps3 in 2021?

any tips or gotchas? Any info would be appreciated.
 
From what I have used with it there is no 3D acceleration from the RSX which made movies a bit sluggish but that was years ago. Got a shield tv myself not long ago and for the $60 it was well worth it.

you are lucky, shield pro 2019 at my country costs 240 eur. you dont even get a joystick like you used to with 2017 models. :D so I'm trying to look for alternatives as much as I can.

Since you mentioned you have it answer me a question:

Lets say I install VLC on it. I wonder if the following would be possible:

- Connect a wireless USB mouse to Shield TV AND when I launch VLC player to map mouse scroll wheel going up or down to function as a SEEK FORWARD/BACKWARD (on windows this happens if you press SHIFT + RIGHT/LEFT ARROW.

Is there a way to customize Android version more like a windows version of VLC?

I control mine just via my phone. And I got mine used for that price. I really got it to use Moonlight. There are cheaper and more capable boxes out there.
